Is the stock transmitter still able to be used or is a better transmitter needed to add, say, the GY240? I'm thinking about adding a gyro in the future, figure then I'll have one for another machine
The GY 240 can't be tuned from a TX anyhow, you have to do it from the Gyro so it really wouldn't matter. If you went with a GY401 then you could benefit from a better controller by having direct control of the gyro from the TX.
However I think the GY 401 costs more or about as much as the AXE CP itself
