Making it better
Hi RC_boy,
I have a few modifications that help it to hover but the biggest modification was upgrading from an OS 70 Surpass II to the Saito .91 . The difference was like night and day. The Saito .91 actually weighs less than the OS 70 and it goes in the same mounting holes. With the 14x6 Master Airscrew prop it is a lot easier to hang it which is the first step to a good torque roll.
It doesn't take really large throws to hover, in fact I can't use high rate elevator for hovering. The key to hovering is making the right input in the right amount, QUICKLY. The quickness is more important than giving it a lot of throw. I do have a few things that help it hover, the first one is flaperons coupled to the elevator. This seems to give increased authority to the elevator control overall. You have to have about 2 degrees right thrust also. When you are hovering, trim your rudder to hang straight. After you land, adjust the motor thrust to eliminate that rudder trim. It helps if you don't have to constantly bump right rudder in all attitudes. -Tom
