Im using Clear view ($40). I found a free E-sky simulator with a USB transmitter, discarded the software and downloaded Clear view. It's not quite as nice as Hangar9's but there are downloadable models.

I myself am looking for a nice lowish price 3d capable copter. I'm still weighing the cost vs college vs future free-time aspect though.
