I've been flying this plane on the RealFlight simulator trying to get used to it's flying characteristics.
I flew the BLT on RealFlight and felt that my BLT flew a lot like the sim. I would recommend that until you get used to this plane, keep your turns gentle. The only bad habit this plane has was that if it got into a really, really tight turn, it wouldn't readily stop wanting to chase it's tail--it was almost as if the inner wing was stalled. If you have altitude, full opposite rudder plus a bit of down elevator easily gets you out. When you are 10 feet off the ground, it's a different story. I've never crashed because of this, but it can be unsettling the first few times it happens.

I think that I might move into more advanced flyers if I master this one however. I'm also finishing up a Great Planes PT-40 right now too.
You may want to move the electronics to a GWS Estarter, after you're done with the BLT, depending on how you're progressing. Many think it's a great little 4 channel plane. I'm still flying my original one and enjoying it.

The BLT does have it's own style. I thought it had a certain appeal, too.

I'd love to see some pics of your build, especially the mods.
