I know what you mean about competitive people. It happens in all kinds of situations. A guy I work with rides his 10 speed to work. Another guy who does bike racing is always trying to get him to come racing with him and can't understand why the guy doesn't want to race. It's the same for me.
I've never tried competitive flying and I don't feel that I'm missing out on anything. As an earlier post said - you sit around all day waiting for your chance to fly.
