Default RE: megatech freedom flyer trouble

ORIGINAL: junkman123

i picked up a megatech freedom flyer because it said fun to fly, easy to fly, ready to fly.so far the only flying it did when it actualy got off the ground was about 75 feet tipping the wings from side to side the whole way.after that it appears to me the plane is to heavy to leave the ground.the only lift off i can get now is take off into the wind then it either takes a hard left or right immediately after take off (about 1 to 2 foot in the air) has any one else had this bad luck.i email megatech and got no response at all.i have flown glow trainers before and they are no trouble to get into the air.this thing is just a pain in the @$$/wasnt wort the $130 i paid for it for sure.is it posible i just got a bad plane?
I am far from an expert at this RC plane stuff: but I have a Megatech Freedom Flyer, so maybe I can offer some insight. There are two "Freedom Flyers". I'm assumng you're talking about the high wing trainer version. Yes, it's heavy. I bought one for my grandson, and our first three hand launches were disasters. Thanksfully, the plane is very tough; and suffered no real damage.

I finally realized (I said I was no expert, remember?) a heavy plane has to be going faster to stay in the air. The next time we launched, I threw the plane much harder. Son of a gun! The thing climbed out and flew with no problems! We have a lot of flights on it now, with no problems. The key is to get the plane going quickly before you take off. The motor has plenty of power, but you have to keep the speed up.

The plane is REALLY tough, BTW. An excellent plane for a beginner. My grandson loves the plane. Thanks; Ernie P.
