Try changing the collet with the one that came in the kit, I had this problem before as well with my collet that came with the motor. Also don’t feel the manual is always right, if you know how the clutch should work then assemble it with the spacers in the place by feel, I have one spacer between the clutch nut and bearing of the bell and another at the end of the bell [manual says there should be two spacers after nut] but a little play will only help.
