Transferring settings between transmitters

I went to the LHS today to buy two control rods and walked out with two control rods ...and the Futaba 2.4gig 7C I'd been coveting.

I'm currently using a 72MHz 7C and have a few planes stored within. Should I duplicate the settings in the new transmitter or just start from scratch and work out each plane afresh? In other words, should one expect the same settings in the old unit to produce the same flight characteristics in the new unit?

There's not THAT much to set up I guess (trim, throttle cut, timers), but it's an interesting question anyway...
