I use a Tettra hinge marking tool (available from Central Hobbies) When I mark then hinge line where I'm going to cut it I use a fine tip ball point pen and press down hard enough to leave a slight indention. Then when I go to cut the slot I just place the blades down in the indention and it stays put when I hit the switch.
