Default RE: Hellcat Build with 250cc Radial

I tried to lay out the aileron so that I could have the same hinge arrangement as the full scale Hellcat. The geometry gets a little complex due to the aileron getting shorter and thinner at the wing tip. Also shown are the drawings of the hinges and the ones I cut from 1/16” 304 Stainless Steel. A 2-56 screw and lock nut is used in each one to secure them. The corrugations on the hinge are so that the epoxy will be able to secure them better. I plan to have them fit in a pocket so that I can slide them in and out and glue them in when they are all in alignment. There is no reason they can not be made from G-10. I was worried that the glass fibers would fowl up the coolant pump on my milling machine.

There is also nothing wrong with hinging it per the plans. It will still look and fly very well. You will have to get under the wing to see the difference.

By the way full size PDF drawings are available for the layouts and the aileron and flap hinges at:
