Thanks John for your analysis, but I think it's important to correct one thing. One of the engine out crashes did not fit the profile of flying low with improper antenna orientation behind the barricade. There was an F-16 that shut down and didn't make it back to the runway and the pilot was not standing behind the barricade, had his antenna oriented properly, and was not low. No numbers on the flight log were available because of a power shutdown, but the ECU's last shutdown recorded a "failsafe 2.1 seconds". I don't know if there is any other scenario where a failsafe is recorded in the ECU besides loss of signal/radio hold, so I am assuming that is what happened.
