Default Fuselage stringers

Hi All,
I know this is not a spacific Carden question but the carden builders out there may know the answer. I am building a 100CC Hurley Extra. It was featured in Model Aviation about 5 or 6 years ago. The Fuselage uses light ply with 3/8 stringers , uprights and cross members. My question is what density should the 3/8 square be? Can it be 5 or 6 lb stock or should it be stiffer wood?
Also how much difference will 1 pound make in the finished airplane. Will a 26 lb. plane fly IMAC better than a 27 pound plane? (I am not interested in 3D). What do you guys think?

Jim
