Yes in theory and practice in the real world, but the drive system on the traxxas trades torque for speed so a lack of bottom end torque isn't a problem. The weight of the extratransitiongearing, motor, and batteries would weigh down the gas engine.
If traxxas could engineer a way to have a single smaller,torqueiermotor with a decent but compact battery to take the place of the onboard AA's to help the engine off the line, that would be cool.
