This kit review of the model from the August 1980 RCM&E may be of interest. Given the equipment available today I would definitely go the ailerons/micro servo route and probably also use electric power.

I only earned £110 a week at that time!
note well the comments about overpowering. I would have thought that an FS40 would be at the top end of the power scale for this model.
