The Veco .45 was introduced around the same time as the Taurus so Ed's choice of the Veco over the K&B was logical as the Veco produced more power. As the popularity of the Taurus grew, larger engines became available. Guys used a variety of engines like the ST .56 an .60, Merco .49 and .61, Veco .61 and OS. 60 Goldhead. So, you have a nice variety of vintage engines to use. Most patten competitors of the time used the larger engines to do the maneuvers required so for sport flying, anything from a .45 up is ok.
