Opening the Vlach box is a last resort. Just taping the foil in place over the damaged shielding will do IMHO.
I know from my dealing with mr Vlach that he needed to test all special requests before he would release it, so I understood that cable impedance and propertiesis important for the workings of the ignition.
If you are confident with that, go ahead.
