RE: what was your first radio system?
My first successful one was an Ace kit, both transmitter and receiver, purchased mail order from Ace in Higginsville, Mo. in 1956. A single channel using a tube front end and a transistor amp driving a relay to switch an ESC (escapement, the original definition of ESC) which was powered with a wound up rubber band.
