Note that he had to send an email rather than a PM while serving notice of his having modded the post because he knew, even as he was writing it, that he was being offensive and that he would violate RCU policies if he used a PM. (the rules for PM's are the same as the forums)
So apparently he is allowed to be offensive in the course of his official RCU duties, just as long as he circumvents RCU's server?
That is just wrong.
Here are a few quotes from RCU's policies:
(Note that there is no mention of deleting images because they are "stupid")
POSTING IMAGES:
Forum members are allowed to embed images in their messages by linking to an image that exists on another site or downloading it from their computer's harddrive. In addition to the copyright restrictions mentioned above, users should also refrain from embedding any images of a sexual or offensive nature. Any links to clearly offensive or pornographic materials will be removed immediately at the moderator's discretion.
HARASSMENT & FLAMING:
RCU members are not permitted to..."flame" other members. Please do not... transmit any...abusive, harassing,.....hateful,...or otherwise objectionable material of any kind...Please note that this also includes the posting of taunts...solely for the purpose of demeaning...members.
PRIVATE MESSAGING:
... RCU forum etiquette rules apply to private messaging. All rules that are broken via private messaging will be dealt with in the same fashion as if they were posted on the forum itself.
I think that the mods are generally liberal in allowing us some leeway to "stretch" the rules here and there. But I think they have an obligation to hold themselves to a higher standard lest they risk their own credibility when it is time to drop a hammer, no?
