This championship is definitely the F3A Electric switch over time.
Till now i've counted about 7 electric planes/competitors, that represents more than
10% of the total amount of competitors ( 60 in total ).
Here are some pics...

The popularity of electric power in Europe is partially attributable to the high price of glow fuel there (~$40US/gallon of 25%).

I disagree with that reckoning , at that level fuel costs are not that important , plus the costs are pretty similar in the long run ( battery replacement costs etc ) , I think its more of a dependability/reliability issue.

I think it's more of a new gadget issue. We are pattern flyers, after all [8D]

That being said, I have no interest in electric F3A at the moment personally, other than the novelty of it. I appreciate the efforts involved by those using this technology, but I don't want it for myself any time soon. My OS runs too good. I'll let someone else wear the coon skin cap in this case, I'll play with air frames. I wouldn't expect electrics to "take over" any time soon, but you'll start seeing more and more as the technology issues get worked out.

I just wish for teh electric guy's sake they could weigh them without the batteries. it's the fuel, after all, isn't it? Just seems fair to me.

Once again I disagree, novelty issue didn win J.Shlman the Nats , now dont get me wrong,I wouldn change my dingo for any electric but it certainly has its place in modern pattern flying , i've watched a local pattern flyer switch and he is as good as he ever was with electric after only 3 mnths VS twenty years on glow , but to me subconscously it takes the seriousness of a patern plane away, its like it makes it more of a toy plane or something!! In reality it boils down to horses for courses, some people will adapt some wont, like some people moved to 4-stroke and some still fly 2-stroke.But at the end of the day its a welcome addition to the arsenal of a serious pattern flier, which can only be a good thing

After reading Tony Frackowiak's comments about the Significant reduction in vibration afforded by electrics and resulting increase in equipment longevity (especially servos) - plus NO Mess. I got very interested. The current price is a bit of a deterrent as is the charging hazard (AKA - FIRE!! See photos in the recent K-Factor); so I'll stick with glo. I love my OS 1.40s, too. All that being said; I definitely don't think electrics are a gimmick and in the long run they are probably the most reliable power plant available. I just gotta have compression and the smell of freshly combusted glo-fuel... can't be beat!
By the way, Dave Von Linsowe tried very hard to get an electric USA Star ready for his last FAI WC as a team member several years ago.
Pattern Rules,
Will B.

Hey DV.
A propeller of an electric airplane on the pavement can be seen only 1 blade.
Is this true?

No, that has to be an artifact due to high image compression and colour similarity with the background. As far as I know a single-blade propeller has only been used in Pylon competitions, whereas in F3A it is most certainly counterproductive (lower drag, where more drag is required).

-Fabrizio

How does the Hacker vs Pletti compare? does the Hacker fliers use the extra power? to fly larger manovers?

Today i don't have more photos of planes. The only photo is of the preliminary results papers, of the 1st and 2nd rounds ( 2nd round incomplete, so the things after that should become diferent.)

There is no One blade propeller in this championship. Its illusion from the photo.

At the moment i can say there is 4 diferent setups of electric motors/Speed controllers and bateries between the 7 Electric competitors.
Roland and Wolf MAtt (Lie), Florent Rochedieu (Fra) and Philipe Marquet (Bel), are using Hacker motor / Hacker -Jeti ESC / TP bateries, equipment. Philipe Marquet is using different pack ( Kokam i think ).
Alles Zapletal (Cz) is using AXI motor /ESC ?/ Polyquest bateries
Guhnter Ulsamer (Ger) is using Lehner motor / ? Esc / ? Lipoly Butteries.
Bernd Berchoner (Ger) is using Plettenberg motor / Schulze ESC / Emcotec Lipoly packs.
More information about electrics, next days.
The electrics fly very smooth and slow enough. Hacker are more slow, but seems more powerful that the others, but with minimum differences. The are all very good pilots.

There is no official print outs of the results at the moment. So the results posted are preliminary.

More in the next days.
