Default Gws EDF 50

Hi Everybody,

I just installed a Gws edf 50 unit for a tail rotor. It works awesome!!! Tons of tail authority, and best of all no more broken tail blades!!

On what? Hmmm, have one of those laying around doing nothing... Happen to have a digital camera and could take a picture of the mouting system you used?

I'll put a couple pics up tomorrow. I just drilled a hole through the fan unit and slid the boom through it (luckily my boom separated from the gear housing and main frame without breaking).

I was wondering how you connect the Gws EFT 50 to the hummingbird mixer board (does it already have the necessary connection cable) also, how big was the hole you drilled?

Thanks

ALSO, -what is the diff between the EDF 40, 50, 60 etc.

Which one do you recommend for the HB?

I wouldn't recommend using it with a mixerboard, and the hole I drilled was 3/16"

It might be too much for the mixer and fry it. I did shorten my tail boom to compensate for cg

Hi

I've already got an edf 40 (H), with a etec 3cell 1200 and it seems from what I can gather , on my heli the 40H doesn't seem to have enougth tail authority, i'm leaning hardish on right rudder just to keep the nose straight. The JR XP 662 tx has the REVO maxed out.

I'm running seperates with Yukonhos blades (LIKE90) Razor v2 mh with 10t pinion.
Which edf-50 is the best choice ?

Cheers

Adi

I've heard of many people not having enough power with the high volt edf versions.
I've used my edf50 with 3cell packs, and haven't had any problems.

my setup was:
edf50
3cell 700mah kokams
separate gws ics100s for main and tail rotors

I'm thinking of going for this one GW/EDF-50BH MOTOR : CN12-RXC. I know the current draw is higher than the rest. Do you think this is a good choice ?[sm=thumbup.gif]

I think that is a high volt version...not sure though, but if it is I would be weary of using it. I've had good results with the xc50 DD setup. I use to use a duct fan, but found the mounting to be a bear....it would always come loose.

I'd really like to stay with the edf, specially flying indoors with limited space, when i know the best one to get, I will get another carbon mount, or maybe I could enlarge my edf40 mount with a dremmel ? Until I'm happyish with the tail, I won't be trying any significant ff .

Cheers

If you're gonna stick with the edf use the edf50. The low volt version works the best, and it can handle the extra volts of a 3 cell pack no prob. It will have a shorter life if you're flying for 10+ minutes at a time, but if you keep the time down and allow sufficient cooling it'll be fine.
