NTC3 Team kit, my opinions so far...
so 2 days ago i got a rear exsaust non pull start team kit.
i have not finished putting it all together yet but i have it about half way at this time.
seems to be a decently thought out kit so far. the shaft drive fits tighter then any shaft drive / dogbone system i have seen yet. there is no slop or play in it at all. so i assume this car will be very responsive off the line.
my biggest complaint so far is that i did not buy a new screw kit to replace the crap screws that came with it. i have stripped out the hexs in at least 5 screws, luckily i had many extras from other kits laying around that fit the same.
i think that they should sends out screws with the larger hex opening and not the small (5/16 i think?? of the top of my head) one.
i have one screw that is all the way in but stripped on the last turn so now if i ever need to replace that part it holds, what a pain that will be.
so my 1st MUST HAVE if you ever get an NTC3 kit is an after market screw kit.
hopefully i will finish the car next week and get some final opinions on it as well.

opinion # 2 if you plan to get one of these besides an after market screw replacment, get the 2 off size hex wrenches that come with the kit.
i have a nice set of ofna wrenches that fits everything on a 1/8 scale buggy but for this kit they use smaller openings on the same size scres, if you do not replace them for something more standard (the small sizes strip way to easy) then defiantly get some wrenches as the ones supplied suck

RE: NTC3 Team kit, my opinions so far...
i have a great set of drivers. the problem i am having is in the size of the bolts. a couple use such a tiny driver that they are just more pron to stripping out. wish they had come with standard size heads, i replaced many screws with identicle sizes but they use a larger hex to insert, therefor less stripping.
now there are 2 sizes i did not have a hex for and yes i agree the ones that come with it are pretty much useless. lol

Are you using ball end Hex drivers? That could be your problem. I use Dynamite hex drivers. Haven't had a problem with a screw yet, but most of my screws are phillips heads. But the last time I had an AE car (RC10GT) I always had problems with the allen keys balding from the screws and the screw stripping from bad keys.

RE: NTC3 Team kit, my opinions so far...
most of theproblem is that i am missing the hex driver for the smallest size, so i am stuck using that cheap throw away, it is shot now so until i can go buy the ones i am missing i am at a stand still, so close, got everything in but the radio gear and engine which i hope to buy tonight.
either this

the new hpi racing engine or
maybe the picco high speed 7 port or roar engine.

explains all the dang stripping i was getting....
ok all i really want to order my engine tonight
i am now still leaning to
http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXCNA3&P=0
the os turbo, is it true it is now roar legal?

shozz - beware of the os tr turbo. several people in my racing series are using it in the open class, and having alot of problems with the carb. say that the since this is os max's first attempt at a 3 needle carb, they havnt got it right yet. also, getting spanked in the outlaw class by the RB Concepts V15, and the Novamega RS15.
And to answer your other question, no - it is not legal for 1/10th touring car ROAR class. It has 5 ports, Rules state only 3, and it has a turbo head, also illegal. it can be raced in the open class, or outlaw 235mm class. but thats it.

sent ya a pm, i keep going back and forth on these choices, it sucks, lol
two local hobby shops have now told me that roar has recently changed to allow turbo engines supposedly extremely recent less then a month.
i personally have no idea how to verify.
again thanks and what would you suggest? the new hpi engine?

If you are planning on coming to Lunatics with the HPI or the OS .12tr Turbo, I don't you will be fast enough to compete in the expert class. Go with the MT12, Sirio or NovaRossi engine.

yes sooner or later i plan to get to lunitics.
so if i get the os turbo does that put me into expert automatically there?
the hpi is race roar legal from what i have read, only 3 ports and not a turbo. so should i go full circle and get the picco roar or the hpi ?
lol, everytime i think i got one of these settled on i keep changing my mind,

shozz - the hpi will get spanked, not a good engine, avoid if possible.
Just talked to my regional ROAR board member - and I quote "There have been no recent rule changes to allow outlaw engines to compete in the 1/10 touring class. We have discussed the possibility of allowing turbo plugs only for the 2005 racing season, but maximum number of ports will still be 3+1."
If your budget is between 120 and 200 - here would be my recommendations, in the order i think they are the best.
LEGAL ENGINES
1. RB Concepts X12 3port
2. Sirio .12TRP
3. Mugen MR12
4. Mugen MT12
5. OS Max .12TR (non turbo)
6. Novarossi S2
OUTLAW ENGINES
1. RB Concepts X12 5port turbo
2. Sirio .15 5port turbo
3. Novarossi S5
4. Novamega V15
5. Collari .12
There are other engines out there, that i also think are better, but will be much more expensive, and i wasnt sure of your budget.
AVOID THE PICCO smallblocks. Serious carb problems, due to inferior craftsmanship. I have yet to see a single Picco X12 stay running without problems for an entire race day.

RE: NTC3 Team kit, my opinions so far...
Well I know how my O.S .12tr runs, and it really can't keep up with the faster guys. But my driving could also have something to do with that. On the back straight head to head they will take me. Depending on the engine, depends on how fast I get ate up. . I think the Mt12, one of the guys was using was pretty awesome. Judging from the specs on the OS .12tr turbo, I'd say you would do better now and in the long run if you go with one of the engines that NitroAddict suggested. Lunatics is hoping to get a national race at his track next year and that turbo won't be allowed. I think the MT12 would probably still beat it if you guys dragged tc3 vs tc3.
But that's just speculation. I haven't seen an O.S. 12tr turbo out there, yet.

what is the difference between these two?
3. Mugen MR12
4. Mugen MT12
and how much fater do you think the
1. RB Concepts X12 3port
2. Sirio .12TRP
are over the others?
and do you know what site carries these for a fair price?
hey aggdaddy thanks for the feedback on the OS, i am now reconsidering that alltogether as well. would rather take a little longer and research and get what works best for me then get something kick myself in the arse later and wish i got something else.

The only engines that you listed that I have any idea about is the Sirio and the mt12. That Sirio should be plenty fast. I would have bought that one for my G4 if they had it in stock and researched a little more at Tower Hobbies. The Mt12 is plenty fast and keeps low temps, like 220 after the tank has ran dry. The RB, I haven't really researched.
RB's are kinda high though.

RE: NTC3 Team kit, my opinions so far...
You can get all of those engines at Bruckner Hobbies. The Mr-12 is stocked at Harco Hobbies, but is currently out of stock.

http://www.brucknerhobbies.com/Nitro%20Engines.htm
Tower hobbies has a wide selection of engines, but I would only consider the Novarossi / Trinity section for touring car engines.

The RB Concepts X12 is the best all around engine. About as fast as the MR12, but much more reliable, easier to tune, and low temps.
The Sirio is a great mill, probably the fastest of the bunch at the top end, but lacks alot of low end grunt. If you have a very small, technical track, this engine is not the one for you - but if its a huge track, with sweeping corners, this will probably be the fastest. Likes to run a bit hot though.

RE: NTC3 Team kit, my opinions so far...
ok, i was going to pick up the rb concepts today but wentto the local HS and they do not carry it, so a friend who worked there has a friend who has a connection to get them, so he made some calls and tells me that they no longer produce the x12 and now they make a v12??
that sells for 200 or that is the price he can get it for me?
any opinions on that?
thanks again for all your help

RE: NTC3 Team kit, my opinions so far...
the V12 is a seperate engine from the X12. The V12 is a short stroke, the X12 is a long stroke. The V12 will be a bit faster on the straights, and have a slightly higher rpm range. i use a modified V12. If you can afford it, go with the V12, at 200.00 - its a great deal, usually sells for about 240.00
The X12 is NOT discontinued though.

RE: NTC3 Team kit, my opinions so far...
Shozz - the engine i have is the RODY modified V12 3port. It must be a 3 port to be legal. Rody Roem, the on road world champion for 5 years personally takes the engine after it is done at the factory, and dissasembles it, ports and polishes the the piston, sleeve, crank, and other parts. modifies the ports for more aggressive timing, and other things. Seems to give a substantial increase in both RPM and torque. I am noticable faster on the straights and out of the turns. A modified engine IS NOT required, however, in entry level racing, or bashing.
