Seems like lately it has been windy in Houston. So therefore I cannot learn to land, which I am learning right now. If it wasn't for all those windy days, then I'd be soloing by now. I am getting really fed up with windy days and late spring and summer is usually not windy. I have been grounded as a result. [sm=angry.gif][sm=angry.gif][sm=angry.gif][sm=angry.gif]

Don t be afraid of the wind,,, its a good thing when you use it to your advantage. Besides that, it will make you a better flyer!
I'm guessing that your flying during the part of the day when its windy? Is there a part of the day(mornings) when it isn t windy?

My instructor doesn't like to fly on windy days, especially with crosswinds. In the morning, it is usually not windy around 6:30 AM, but of course no one is awake. Unfortunately it has been windy in all times of the day.

landing in wind is an important lesson, go with it.
just be glad your not like us with 400' cliffs at the end of the field, then you get 20' rotors coming across the field which can suck your plane back down, or even take it back up once landed

Same here lately. If it's not windy, it's raining... Or BOTH!
Seems like the entire country has been either rainy or windy for at least a month and a half! If we weren't flying in 15 to 25 MPH winds here, we just wouldn't be flying! It WILL help make you a better pilot though. (If your planes survive.

Yup - You will have to learn to fly in the wind. Favorite quote at my club is that the airplane doesn't know its windy!
Unfortunately flying in the rain is out! Ludington, Michigan where my club is at has had 12.8" of rain the month of May!
Between the winds and the rain I've only been out twice! It sucks. Ptarmigan I totally agree, I'm disgusted too!

I've learned to land in cross wind, but the 20 - 25 MPH we have had lately is a bit much. You can only hover into the wind so much, and then it just gets old.
I like 10-15 MPH down the runway.
I wonder why everyone is experiencing so much wind and rain? Global warming, the earth shifting on it's axis, crop circles?

flying in the wind will make you a better pilot, however trying to LEARN to land in the wind will be difficult. I think you will b better of lerning to land on a non-windy day so you can predict what the airplane will do. With wind there is no telling which way it will yaw, roll, or pitch suddenly. You need quick thumbs. Once you learn to land and are a better pilot, the wind can be fun. I have a funtana that i love to fly in the wind. Good luck!

I hope you mean on REALLY windy days and not a NORMAL windy day. He should take you up on windy days even if you don't get to land. I'm talking 10 to 15 mph not 20 mph. Unless your field is really tricky on the approach, is subject to bad gusts, or some other factor, your instructor should be able to handle the landings.

If you plan on flying more than 5 times a year, you need to be able to handle all weather conditions. (within reason
)The wind is your friend.
Once in the air, the plane can't tell if it's windy or not.

We actually had a day when the wind was only blowing 15 mph. April, May, and June are the worse months of the year to fly in around here because the wind is always blowing. It's the storm season.

Ptarmigan, just wait till July-Aug. and see if your not begging for this wind to return
I'd rather fly in the wind than 100+ degrees and 90% humidity and no breezes

Wind has been blowing here too for a month or two... Never seen this much wind... Were in the 90's
with 15 to 20 mph winds everyday.. And then rain every once in awhile... Definitly a strange weather
year for us...

I can see why your frustrated. I've been to Galveston in June and August and never felt a breeze, even on the beach, which was bad bacuse it gave the mosquitos more of an advantage to suck me dry.
