Cool Slow Stick aerial video...
Well, I just moved into my new home in NY, and my flying field is two feet in front of me! Since I got my slow stick ready to fly, I thought putting my new beta 2.4 ghz camera on it (Price is about $60 for the whole set) worked pretty well, but with the standard rx antenna there were some signal losses, a 10db antenna is already on the way and should improve range alot!
Slow Stick setup:
10 kan 1050 cells
Long can Speed 400
3.3 Planetary gearbox, 11x8 folder
Flies great! Made even a handcatch! (Very nice view in the video!)
Video (50 MB!!!) Dial Up user be aware! Length of video: 8 min

That was great. You stated that you only had $60.00 invested in the camera system. I haven't done any of this in the past but I am very interested in trying it if I could get results like your at that price. Could you tell me what you have for equipment and where I could pick up the same items and get the results that you got? Thanks a lot. Ron in New Hampshire.

Good job editing and filming. Interesting footage, I'd like to see a little wave hopping. Angle the camera downward or straight down for a couple more angles. Can you balance it out and stick it out on the wing a bit to take pictures back at the Stick. I don't know how much the camera weighs, probably need a Wingo or Soarstar to handle the weight, but that would be cool to watch the world rotate during a loop.
Your work was great, give us more. You have my official permission to skip school tomorrow and get it done. Just print out this thread and hand it to your instructors. If it don't cut it, give ARMY ROTC an email, he'll help ya out!

Here is some camera for 70 bucks - http://www.asianwolf.com/sneakcam.html I guess you just install it on your plane and plug the receiver in a video camera and record. Just found another for 64 dollars, but the receiver for this one works with a 12v adaptor - http://store.yahoo.com/raidentech168/mimiwipispyc.html
I read through the one for 70 bucks and it appears to be a very good camera, especially for the price. Works for ten hours on a 9 volt battery. It now also has a built in microphone. Only one problem though, it works 300 feet away, but that's still managable.

RE: Cool Slow Stick aerial video...
Guys you ain't seen nothing yet! That was only a test and the focus was way off! Also I will show you how you can make almost as or equaly good as blackwidow systems with only $20 investments (You'll see later) I did a test flight some time ago, and with the $20 investements, there was not a single connection problem!!! and no interference (Only the electric motor made interference , but only 2 small lines on the video top and bottom, but not really visible) I could fly as high as I could and it would not loose anything quality wise!! I will tell you guys in about a week and show you some pretty awesome video! Don't spend $300 on the blackwidow system! Spend $60 bucks on this system ans $20 bucks in upgrades and you will get awesome quality! BTW: Please help me repair my camera: http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_17...tm.htm#1761365

$120 with a range of 200m and sound , or make your own,... well i can fugure out it'd set me back about $280 - $330 for a full decent with 1-2km range or 100-300m with walls in between with sound and a ccd camera

I look forward to seeing the "upgrade" package in action. Nice video. I have to say though, what I have seen so far does NOT compare to a decent CCD camera with the BWAV system. Sure it costs more, but as far as I am concerned, you do get what you pay for. By the way, you can build a 200mw 2.4GHz system with a nice 330 line CCD camera for $249.00 from BlackWidowAV.com ($150.00 for the tx/rx, $99.00 for the KX121 camera). I don't work for Bill or owe him any money, but his stuff is top rate and his support is outstanding. It's also hard to compare quality from windows media, it would be great to see raw footage from both systems side by side.
Keep the video flowing!

One thing I noticed, where some weird fuzzy patches that got annoying. And it seemed the color was off on the camera. Can this be fixed?

RE: Cool Slow Stick aerial video...
Nice video for first effort. Your vid editing package has some cool effects too. Anyway, I have to say, these Hong Kong type cameras don't give near the quality of a system from Black Widow. I think the weakest part is the CMOS camera itself. They have poor dynamnic range and not-so-great AGC (regulates overall brightness of the video) Both of these are evident in the video.
A Panasonic CCD camera from Super Circuits or BWAV would run about $100, but might give video quality almost as good as the BWAV system if used with the HK transmitter. Probably not as much range though...
I bought one of the so called "800mw" systems last winter for $5 plus $26 shipping. It does work, but the transmitter sucks down a 9v alkaline pretty fast. After about 10-15 minutes the video gets darker and the camera AGC pretty much stops working. I've found that 9v lithium batteries help it considerably. Better range and the video quality stays good a LOT longer. You can get the batts at batterymart.com for about $5 each if you order 5.
Here's one of my slow stick vids shot with my $5 Hong Kong 800mw -

The video went dark right at the end (AGC failure). Also - the vignetting you see at the corners is caused by the fact that I used a larger lens from a webcam in order to try to get more light into the camera.

RE: Cool Slow Stick aerial video...
Ok, first of all, this is my first video...
Second, I just wanted to try the 2.4 ghz system...
Third, I now have a 800mw with a CCD Camera coming on Friday (Still keeping it under a $100 total cost).
Fourth, Blackwidow seems nice but is way too expesive! I rather get a 800mw system with a CCD camera for $40 and some new servos and a new Futaba 7Caf radio, then pay $300-$350 for little bit better quality...
