trireme:

With a helicopter you need to get rid of as much vibration as possible by balancing your blades and rotating Assembly.
mount the camera pan tilt setup to rubber mounts as is done with gas engines on fix wing aircraft.
You can use a video stabilization software like study hand to get rid of the rest of the bumps.
Gyro stabilization is a real pain and will cost upward of $1,000.00 or more to do it rite.

I would try the cheap stuff first before going on that path.

In the end I think you will find out why a lot of us have gone back to the big fixed wings for video work.

I wonder if an FMA Direct CPD4 co-pilot could be used to stabilize the camera pan/tilt setup? $69.95 + 2 servos.

I am interested in doing it right. I would like to capture video that need no modification. I notice that companies like coptervision use a globe mount that looks like a fullsize helicopter camera stabilizer, would like to build something to do that. If possible.

Could it be done with two GY401's?

The FMA copilot is to adjust for horizon line, I need a gyro to compensate for major vibrations.

Yes, I use a lenlabs KS2 to stabilize the roll axis on my camcopters.

Hard to get electric satabilization that smooth. IMHO

Where did you get your Kenyon labs KS2? Did you modify it with a 12v to 120v transformer?
