want to take high res photographs with a SLR (single lens reflex camera). In my case it's a Canon Rebell. Even though the camera has a video link the output is not live but just a review of already taken pictures. Without a live picture from the camera's eye finder you have no scene control. Any idea how to get live pictures from the camera's eye finder downlinked?

@son of paleface: right that is the case with every SLR. The only SLR camera with live view I know is from Olympus.
so what I'm looking for is a micro-video camera hooked on the eye-finder of an SLR that send live videos down to earth.

Yo Cyberjoa maybe you would be better off buying a inexpensive digital with a video out and a downlink just a thought because putting a micro camera behind for a viewfinder will not work very well if at all.

I have tested my Ebay acquired Nikon 5400 and it will pass through the viewfinder image in both still and video mode while capturing data to the memory card. The wired remote I bought from Ebay does not work with the camera so I am going to fabricate a servo mount utilizing the neckstrap studs and accessory shoe as mounting points. One micro servo will operate the zoom and another will press the shutter release. The video output shows shooting data and clocking as the buffer writes to the card. It also shows that it is recording in video mode. with my improved pan/tilt mount for this 14 oz camera and a live video feed I plan to have full PTZ capability with the 5400. I am building this for my Giant Big Stik. There is a thread on this forum with my progress so far.
If you want to use that slr you would have to get a tiny video cam and mount it to the viewfinder. The mirror returns the view through the lens as soon as the film advances. It would only be a matter of the tiny video cam being able to focus on the ground glass in the viewfinder pentaprism. I have considered my Nikon n4004 or n90s for mounting but even with a small lens I was looking at over two pounds and lots of bulk with a pan/tilt rig. I see that large of a camera being more viable in a fixed configuration on the plane.

Simply use a second small wireless video camera to downlink the image to the ground. Get a small camera with about the same field of view as you DSLR and you are good to go.
Putting the camera so that it looks through the viewfinder is not worth the time. IMHO.
