Default DL video from aiptek Mini PenCam via Mac?

Has anyone been able to download video from the aiptek Mini PenCam 1.3 to a mac running osx? I've tried macam, but I can only download the pictures. When I download the video, I get a jpg file that is just colored lines?

Anyone had any success?

Thanks for leads

Hi,

A few unknowns.

A.

The generic USB driver might support the jpegs but not the movie file format.
You might send a note to the driver author(s) and ask them. You can also
try to append .avi to the end of the filename and see if it opens at least in
quicktime ( check the file size, if it's larger than a typical picture, then you might be half way there... )

You can also get some DiVX codecs that might be able to decode the AVI formatted movies.

B.

For 20 spendolas, I'd buy an SD card aiptek pen cam.

See http://tinyurl.com/ptza4

Get an SD card reader and then copy the AVI file over to your Mac.
No more fussing with generic USB drivers.

The next trick is to read the .avi file. Again, some of the DiVX drivers might work.

Not being an AIPTEK owner, I can't vouch for the file's playability. If you do capture a file
in the wild, and you can't decode it, send me a copy and I'll see if I can find the appropriate
codec for the file.

I've just made sure I have the latest divx, and I do. Still no luck. When I use .avi instead of .jpg I get avi files (only a couple seconds, even though the real movie is a minute) but the are just white, with no sound. They do change in dimentions if I record in the smaller movie, so its not entirely random junk being downloaded.

I was hoping someone here had already done all the research and knew the answer.

If divx didn't work, I'd try the OS X version of mplayer, a multi-purpose movie player tool with
a whole bunch of codecs, one of which might be able to decode your .avi file.
