Flightcomputer/PIC programming
Hi
I just wonder if anyone here shares my interest of doing a flightcomputer which incorporates GPS and regular flightdata. I was going to buy the TL100 telemetryboard, but for that price I can do some development myself which hopefully will be more flexible for further experimenting. I plan to go for the Javelin Stamp microcontroller. I only know Java and Matlab. If any of you do/plan such projects I would like to hear about it. I use the rc-cam forum abit. They got some good stuff on this subject. |

These sort of projects can be very rewarding. But be sure to fully understand the hardware and software requirements before you discount using the TL100. I have several hundred dollars invested in my ongoing telemetry project and it is still not done to my satisfaction.
My project has two Motorola pressure sensors (speed and altitude), exhaust thermocouple, ambient temp via Dallas DS1620, rotor head speed via opto detector, three battery monitoring channels, fuel level, wireless RF link, and more. I am now on version II. It has been in limbo for over a year -- not enough hours in a day to get back to it. If you would rather be flying than developing, then order a TL100. Otherwise, subscribe to a Jolt cola delivery service, crank up the compiler, and go at it. Good luck! |

You got an interesting web site, and the forum is great! I haven't found any info on your telemetry equipment. What microprocessor do you base your system(s) on? I have been inspired by Cyber-Flyer,but concidering the price of the TL100 and my future plans I would really like to try do a computer myself. I know many that have used Basic Stamp as microcontroller, but the Javelin Stamp seems to be a better choise. That being said,I can't find so much freeware for the Javelin as for the Basic, and the price of the Javelin is higher. (First goal is to make my model keep its position if out of range)
I am custombuilding a twintail pusher plane (.75 size) to use as a testbed for the system. I guess I'll just order the Jolt Cola.......... |
