I have built a fun fly from scratch . It has a 42"wing span with a 16 " cord . It went for its first flight last weekend . The first flight was very crazy could not even touch the elevator or it went straight up or down , rolls were way to fast . Landed and cut the throoughs way down ,This made things better but still crazy . removed the balance tab off the elevator and added weight to the front . The plane is now better to fly . The elevator is still touchy it seems that when you change the pitch of the wing the force on the wing over powers the stab and it wants to continue to go down or up . The plane is very short . I am planing to increase the stab area to make it more stable . Also because the wing is so big and the tail is so short maybe it should be treated more like a flying wing and moe the cg forway even more? The elevator seem to be the only problem .Your input would be great .

Ollie, one of the entries in the SAE AeroDesignWest 2002 event this year at Lancaster did a superb pitchup..went vertically on its very first flight. The pilot (John Redman) managed to get control and flop it down, at which time the c.g. was checked.. It was somewhere around 70%!!!
Required over 8 pounds of ballast to move it close to 30%, and was somewhat flyable for the next flight.
A Burnelli type biplane, pusher.
It was noted on the preflight that the prop was on backwards.. This affects thrust.
Sadly, the landing gear was too short to permit the use of the correct sized prop, a 14x6. Had to make do with a 12x6. Another source of no performance.
Collitch kids! Oi!!!

That rod is the controll rod for the rudder . there was not enough room to go under the stab. Wait thats on the right . I think you mean the wire for the servo that run down the left side of the fuze
