PROP AFFECT LIFT OVER THE WING
:DHow does the prop affect lift of the wing in the prop wash stream?
Is there a way to gauge the extra lift created by the wash? Can the prop wash have a negitive affect on lift? What prop system has the most positive affect on efficiency, a pusher or puller? [:-] |

We'd all agree you will get more lift overall because of the higher volume of airflow...
But... the wirl of the prop will cause higher lift on one side then the other... maybe this effect is most 'significant' at low speed, when the propwash is high compared to model air speed?? |

Well the slipstream does hit the wings with a spiral effect so I would suppose that there is some lift off one side and some negative lift or lift reduction off the other. And the effect of this is opposite to the propellor torque so it sort of cancels out. But other than that I can't say I've ever seem any of my models fly with any great degree of difference engine on to engine off other than climbing is easier with it on.
For hover'batics obviously the propwash is critical but that's a pretty special case. There WAS some interesting info about the Custer Channel wing a while back and when I get a chance I want to try making a test Custer section to see if the theory about static vehicle velocity lift from the prop blast through the channel as stated on the web site is valid.
