I see this term thrown around pretty commonly but have never heard it explained.

Don't ask your mother --
In this instance, it refers to a situation where you input one flight command and the airfame reacts as if another command is added.
Example -- Input rudder in level flight --
Reaction:
the airframe yaws AND dives.
