ailerons wider than trailing edge?
I'm currently modifying a Sig Seniorita to include ailerons. Given that this is a fairly slow flying aircraft, I'd like to make the ailerons as large as possible. The trailing edge is 1 1/8" wide. The ailerons I was thinking of adding are 1 1/4" wide and would extend 1/4" wider than the trailing edge. Would this create enough drag to be concerned about? Or would the pieces of trailing edge stock that I removed make decent ailerons for this aircraft?

If these are full span strip ailerons then don't worry about it. The stock you remove will be just fine. If they are barn door types then perhaps make them a rib bay or two longer.
In any even extending them back by 1/4 inch wouldn't create any noticable difference other than to ensure a slightly snappier aileron response. While you're at it you may want to incorporate some differential in the linkage so the up throw is more than the down throw for less adverse yaw on such a slow flying model. |

You would also benefit by removing most if not all the dihedral else the ailerons will be relatively ineffective.
