Aileron Length

Hello All,
I fly a 64" wing on my combat planes with 30" ailerons, inch and a half wide. 1 servo mounted in the center of the wing. I want to play with putting 2 servos in the wing one for each aileron to get better roll rate. My question is how short can I make my ailerons. I know ailerons are most effective near the wing tip but at what point do they become just drag as they get near the fuse.

Thanks,
Rick

I don't know the scientic formula, but I can tell you this:

On several planes with strip ailerons, I have cut the inner 1/3 off to use as flaps and it made no noticable difference in roll rate

Thanks Minnflyer,
That was going to be my first guess if not given something more concrete. Btw I liked your write up on the Skybolt, I'm building one now.

Rick
