It is pretty quite around this thread. I have been working on mine hit and miss. I'm not worried about the weight. But I do have a lot of carbon going into mine. Tube set, gear, spinner. I'm at 650 feet Asl. so the 100 should be fine. The new 85 looks like it should fly this plane. The 33% planes would be more suited for the 85 and would be a total monster in the 33% airframe. I'm still working on my smoke set up. I want to be able to take it all out when I want to make it lighter. Currently the designe is mounting everthing on a piece of carbon fiber like tray then mounting that in the pipe tunnel. I will show some pics when I get it done.

Duh! Where are the servos. I forgot the darn servos. 13-oz. Not looking so good now. May be a wash with the carbon if I can use a carbon spinner. So some place under 25-lbs. Don't know about the balance, though. Rats. But it might still be okay. Report is that the DA85 will turn a Mezlik 27-10 at 6200-rpm. How does that compare with the 100? I remember reading a post back a few and someone report 6150 with the 100 but I don't remember the prop. I'll try a search.

By the way, it sure is lonely here while so adeptly showing my ignorance.

My DA 100 turns a Mejzlik 28 x 10 at 6500.

That's a Mejzlik 27 X 10TH (meaning "thin" ) prop, not standard. Still, at 65' ASL, that engine will pull 25 pounds just fine - also consider a 24 ounce tank to lower the take-off weight.

I'm sorry - I was talking about the DA-85, which would have a hard time pulling 28 pounds...

Well, will the 85 jsut pull it around? Or will it PULL IT AROUND? Know what I mean? I have everything coming now except the engine so i'm up in the air. I noticed in MA magazine that all but a couple pilots at the Don Lowe Masters were using DA-150's. I really like my 50cc engines and would like to stay with DA but not at the expense of weight and power. So in order to keep weight down I may be back at the BME 115 with canisters. But, thats going to be a pound or so heavier than the DA 85 because of 2 headers and 2 cans. Man I really wish we had some more practical experience the DA-85. Wish they'd strap it on a 35% at 27lbs and see what it could really do?

do you know what the 85 is going to cost? I think the 100 is a better choice for this plane but that's just what I think. I would rather be a little heavier with a 100 then taken a chance with a 85,and if your thinking about smoke the 100 is a no brainer. good luck

bodywerks, are you still using the BMW 115? I read in an earlier post that your plane was barely pulling out of a hover. I'm considering a BME Extreme 115, which is why I ask. I have a DA-100 on the shelf, but thought about trying something new.

Did anybody use a BME 50cc on this plane and if so how did you mount it. Did you used the collars provided etc. I have not received the kit yet but will arrive shortly. I'm talking about the Edge 260 QB

Umm, the subject plane for this thread is a 100cc size, and there is no such thing as an Edge 260, as far as I know. To answer your question, I don't think anyone has put a bme 50 on theirs.

Default RE: Building the 260

Here is my new AW 35% 260 just completed yesterday. AUW is 28.2 pounds with the following gear

DA 100 on KS canisters with flex headers
JR8711'a on the rudder
JR8611's everywhere else
Emcotec DPSI system
Fromeco batteries 5200's on the mains, 2600 on ignition
Emcotec voltage regulator on the ignition
Custom servo leads from Bentwing RC Aviation
H9 Titanium pro links for linkages (okay I confess I did not use stock push rods)
Powerbox Smoke system from Aircraft International
Custom Graphics Package from Custom Edge Graphics (Stan and Nora are Excellent to deal with)

This plane was an ARC (already to cover) and boys let me tell you, when you see the Extra 260 in the bones, it makes you appreciate the AW build quality even more. I used a mechanics mirror and flashlight to look into the wing to check glue usage (had a catastrophic wing failure on another kit due to lack of glue) and it is nice to see quality workmanship. Here are some pics...

PS this was my first try with Gorilla glue to glue in the hinges, will not go back to epoxy anymore....good stuff!

Okay...update time.

I have had 17 flights on my new bird...hey I have to work to support my hobby. I had Dave "Planebender" Sullivan at my flying club for a two day 3D school last week and he took my bird up and wrung it out big time. Complained it was a tad bit nose heavy so....since then I have done the following:

removed and replaced Aluminum landing gear with CF gear, kept stock wheel pants
removed totally the smoke system and tank, replaced stock fuel tank with single Dubro 32 ounce tank
moved ignition battery from on top of wing tube to a small tray built just under rudder pull pull wires
removed 2.5 ounces of lead from tail wheel that was a temp fix for "planebender"

have yet to weight her but she has to be lighter by about a pound I am guessing!

Will advise new weight once I get a chance to weigh it!

Here is a pic of my plane during after hours of a fun fly.

Great plane with great support from Aeroworks. I had a crash due to engine problems and Rocco helped me out as much as he could. Everything went smoothly.
Could not ask for better service!
