Default 35cc Aeroworks Extra 300 - Electric Conversion

I have to say this is the nicest ARF I have had the pleasure of building. It was very well put together and pre-assembled. Took maybe 7 hours to assemble everything. Everything was predrilled or installed except the rudder...simply amazing.

It is also shockingly light, even with the electric conversion...it came to 13 lbs on the dot. To put that in perspective...it is 3lbs lighter than my H9 Sundowner 80 with the same setup. I used a Hacker A60-M / 18 with 2 x 6S Flightpower 5000mah packs in series and a Jeti Spin 99 ESC.

I still need to construct a battery tie-down system...but that should only take another hour. Flight report in the next few days.

Well...dirty little secret about electrics is they are a much easier build. No cutting the cowl...no throttle servo & linkage. Motor mount is a piece of cake. No fuel tank. Kind of plug-n-play (pun intended).

Has it flown, and if so, how'd it go?

Unfortunately it has not flown yet...it has been too windy and I got distracted by another dual EDF project . I'm hoping this week it will make it's flight.

WOW....WOW...WOW...WOW. The maiden flight was awesome.

Amazing is all I can say about this plane. It flew dead straight...no trimming required.

Very very minor coupling on KE...easily flown though. Waterfalls were crisp. Snaps were quick.

It flew around easily on 1/4 throttle, and unlimited vertical on 1/2 throttle. I didn't even bother flying it any faster.

Take off in about 40ft. Nice easy glide for landing and settles right down.

On 2 x 6s-5000 packs I could get about 9 solid minutes of flight time. I'm seriously considering going to 5S packs to get it even lighter.

Video coming on Saturday or Sunday.

It is an XOAR 20X10E prop. Very light weight...and looks nice too

Hey sbritton,
Do you happen to know what the weight of just the kit is? I like the electric setup, my problem is I don't like the cost of batteries. Sounds like you have an awesome setup.

Wow great job. I'm thinking of doing it in a 10s. Did you ever post a vid anywhere?

I haven't flown it in awhile, but will try to get some video of it soon. Weather is looking good for tomorrow.

Sounds good! I'll check the thread again in a few days. Don't forget to fly low, fly high and fly hard

What servos did you use in it? I'm really interested in this. I may put one of these together to take to the field when I don't want to take my gassers.

Hopefully this thread will pick up again. Anyone know of any other conversion threads on this plane?
