Default Pitts Python speed

I am about ready to order the AW Pitts before the sale ends or they run out of stock. I have the AW 50cc Extra 260 that has to be the best. I would like to know about speed. Is the Pitts faster than a Extra 260 or an Edge 540? I like to make those fast flybys every once in a while, the faster the better. After converting to gas about 2 years ago, the glow planes are put up with lots of afterrun. I know I am going to order the Pitts, I would just like to here some stories about it's speed.

Thanks,

George G. Royal

Speed is proportional to two things, thrust and drag.

Thrust depends what motor and prop you use - obviously a 50cc and probably a 23x8 prop.

Drag, as you may have worked out the Pitts has two wings and a more rounded faced fuse. Thus more drag than a monoplane like the Extra or Edge. Therefore the Pitts will not sustain high velocity speeds - it creates more drag.

Hope this answers your needs without going into too much detail!

No, If you put your extra and the Pitts in a drag race. The Pitts will loose.

But it will sure look good as it falls behind

For a biplane the pitts is still pretty fast, take a look at the video [link=http://aero-works.net/store/detail.aspx?ID=300]here[/link] if you havent already.

Hey Mark,
I have watched the video more than once. My third 50cc gas was the AW Extra 260 with the DA50 and JR9303 2.4g. After six months of flying the Extra, I am sold on Aeroworks. I have a Cap 232 and Edge 540, my next choice is the AW Python.
Now that it is on sale, It is hard to resist. I just want to get more info before ordering. I have the receiver and servos. I still haven't madeup my mind on the engine. I downloaded the manual several months ago and have been looking over it. I like your videos and excellent photos of AW planes. I am going to check Monday to make sure it is in stock.

Thanks,
George G. Royal
