ultimate 30 cc
 

i just started building my new bipe and i was wandering what kind of performance should i expect from this bipe with the DLE35 ?
It seems like right from the unboxing this airplane will be heavier than I expected.
also the quality is unreal as usual from aeroworks.

I have flown 2 of their bi planes. both their 50CC size. They flew awesome. I am thinking of getting a 30CC bipe. I just happen to own a DLE35 RA and need a home for it.

unfortunately I got to answer that question by my own by flying mine with a 35RA on a xoar 19,8 . Once again the weight advertised by AE is pure BS. That said the weight of your components is an issue if you wanna get some vertical performance.
i also added a smoker system wich I flew for one day because it was like flying a Cub so much the performance went down.
So the smoker system and the benett muffler went on permanent vacation.
honestly a 45cc is required to really have fun and keep some extra power to get out of trouble.
also its very sturdy! built like a Mack truck!
bottom line is : I love the flying part and hate the power to weight ratio

yep an advertised low weight is a seller.

KTMFrank, could you give me a better frame of reference on the vertical performance. For example, how much throttle to make it hover?

I made my throttle curve very linear (7 points) to sustain a hover i'm pumping the throttle from 65% to 90%

Wow! That's more than I was hoping for. Gonna have to rethink this purchase. I wonder how much heavier a DA -50 is than the DLE-35 :-)

I thought about a dle 55ra power would not be an issue for sure. But if ever have a deadstick i will regret my choice. This airframe is on the heavy side. And that comes with a rather high wing loading and as a bonus all the disadvantage that comes along. Right now i'm wating on a bowman ring. Its seems like a low cost lightweight altenative to turn cat into a lion. Lolll

Did a little research. I don't see a better alternitave for power right now.

All these weights are plus muffler but only the DLEs have a muffler included in the price.

I just cant see hanging another 12oz or so to the nose to get better verticle. I have seen Goldbergs fly way over weight and way over power. They were fine for IMAC type flying but don't dare dead stick one or try to harrier it. Guess it depends on the type of flying you do.

You read my mind or what? :))) only by removing the smoker system i shaved 11.7 oz. huge difference in overall flight characteristic

Don't know for sure but I'll but that twin is heavier than the DLE 55.

AUW for the 40cc is 42.5 ounces which includes the mufflers & ignition. It' s lighter than the DLE 55! the AUW for the DLE is 55.3 which included muffler and ignition

I am surprised Scooter. Maybe you can help me with this question. On a 4-stroke glow engine a 1.20 twin is about the same power as a .90 single cylinder. Do 2 stroke gas engines have the same issues with power? Or will a 40cc twin be the same power as a 40cc single?


@ Frank. Would you buy this plane again? I am having a hard time resisting it even with the extra weight you talk about.

Did a little research on the twin Valley View 40cc that Scooter mentioned.
Looks like it might be a viable option.

BTW the cowl on the 30cc Ultimate is 9-1/2" wide as listed on the AW site.

If the horse power numbers are close to accurate the extra 4.37oz would not be a big issue. The $50 price difference seams like a bargain for a twin.

I'm going to install the VVRC 40cc in a EF 78" Extra 300. I was hoping to have it completed by now; however, life always has its little interruptions. I should be done in a few weeks.

Update: i flew my bipe recently to discover that this engine (DLE35RA) needs to at least burn 2 gallon os before it wakes up.
I flew Sunday 6 flight all in all. For no particular reason or any adjustment done to it suddenly afte the third tank its pulls like it never did before. Unlimited vertical !!!!!!!
it sustain a hover at half throttle easily.
Me and my buddy were astounded at the fact that suddenly the DLE realised that is job is to pull this plane around. So its is very weird in a sense that now it throws this bipe around like nothing. It almost seems like the ignition mapping has changed??? ***? we were three of us looking at this when it happened.
and since then its doing very good.

Sounds like great news. Wonder if you had a reed stuck or something?? Either way glad it woke up for you. What prop are you running?

I dont know if you ever owned an ultimate bipe but its flying like it should be! Neverthess a bipe is a bipe. high drag and heavy with a crazy fast roll rate. It tracks like its on rail. Where you point it is were it goes. But keep the weight down as much as possible.

I have owned three Goldbergs and flown several bigger ones. If it flys as good as a Goldberg I would be happy. My hope would be the AW has better aile authority for harriers slow speed flight.

David i cant tell about the Goldberg cause mine is being built as we speek. But for low speed ( high alpha) i will hold easily an upright harrier with almost no wing rock. I love this bipe
