Extra 260 75cc

I'm getting ready to mount my DA 85 in my new AW extra 260 75cc model. I'm trying to figure out the throttle linkage... Does anyone have any experience with this set up?? some pic's would help a bunch... Set up on the choke would be helpful as well.. Thanks, Rick

i have a ball link on the throttle which has a certain spot that its sweet to move back and forth, at that spot i mounted my throttle servo. one of the pics is one i used off the net to get an idea of how to do it.

Mowery,

I’ve got the same DA 85 Extra 260 combo. If you still need pics of throttle and choke hook ups let me know.

I used the 4-40 rod with ball links for linkage. I’m debating whether or not to switch the metal rods and replace with carbon fiber tubes to possibly help eliminate RFI from the ignition.

Just waiting to receive the new JR 9303 2.4 and I’m ready to fly.

I'm actually waiting on a new 9303 2.4 as well..I did go ahead and use ball links on my choke and throttle..I wouldn't mind seeing how you did yours though..you might have a better idea!! Thanks, Rick

The Manual is 105 pages long, they supply the servo mounts and linkage, I believe they tell you were to locate it to?
Don't they also provide a DA-85 specific mount with the ARF? it would be great to see pictures.

Rick,

More pics of AW and 85 with Jtec.
How close is your backplate from the cowl? At the closet point I measured a little less than 1/8". (.105) This is before final tightening of the engine to the mount.
Don't want the cowl to flex in flight and touch the spinner backplate.
May have to shim the motor with 1/16' ply to get the motor out a little further.

I had to put an extra piece of ply behind the motor mount that came with the kit..My backplate was way too close for comfort... I had everything finished I thought till I found this little problem..I fixed it tonight and it's ready to go... Rick

mowery,

On a couple of my Cardens, I have less then a 1/16 " of clearnace for the backplate and Cowl, never had a problem of rubbing.
Motor torque moves a little, but the cowl should be OK.

On the 75cc AW 260, the lower portion of the cowl lip that surrounds the hub is slightly flimsy and may give somewhat. However, the motor on this bird is mounted solid with the 1 inch plywood mount against the firewall. Little extra insurance can’t hurt. My final clearance should be 1/8 to 3/16.

Rick,

If you can post some pics, I’d like to see your battery, switch, and receiver set up. Also, how did your CG end up and did you have to move anything to balance?

I’m using 3 TBM 2600 Li Ions and 3 MPI Miracle switches. The 2 receiver switches will go directly into the JR 2.4 GHz receiver. No power expander.

Have you done anything extra to facilitate engine cooling? I’m concerned about too much air entering around the spinner and displacing air over the front of the cylinder.

Here are some more pic's..I used the template provided by Aero-works to slot the clowling for extra cooling..You can't see it in the pic's...The switches are mounted on the right and left sides of the plane..The one on the right is for the ignition and left for receiver..Rick

Hey guys, I've got mine sitting in the box and starting on it next week. You mentioned that you shimed the engine out but you don't mention how much. Did you just put a washer behind the engine mount or did you do something to the extent of 1/8" +? I got the canister for my 85, hopefully its as easy to install as the instructions indicate. Thanks, Jerry.

RE: Extra 260 75cc

Jerry, the instructions show a template to be used for cutting the firewall to accept throttle arm, choke arm etc. When you install motor mount, use this piece as well to spave out the DA 85 an extra 1/8" or whatever thickness the ply is... Good luck with your Extra..If ya need any help give me a shout!! Rick

I don't have the 85 yet. Do the instructions say NOT to use standoffs and that the entire contact surface of the backplate needs to be supported?

mowery1 09-19-2007 07:37 PM

RE: Extra 260 75cc

Yes, Do not use standoffs..Mount directly to solid surface..as is standard on the Extra 260..hope that helps..Rick

The 1 inch plywood engine mount compresses when torqued down. That's why the extra 1/8 inch added the front. I used one of the enclosed templates and placed it on the front side just behind the motor.

Made a thin ply air dam to help divert the hot air out the bottom of the cowl. I'm giving some thought to blocking off part of the opening around the spinner. Any thoughts on that?

RE: Extra 260 75cc

If you made the cut-out for the pitts muffler big enough, there shouldn't be any problem with the hot air escaping...just my thought..I'll be test flying mine soon and I'll let you know how it goes..Rick

RE: Extra 260 75cc

Rick,

Did you use the enclosed 1/8 inch brass and Tygon fuel tubing or increase to 5/32 inch?
Which oil you going to be using for break-in and after break-in?

Jake
