Default How many real aircraft mechanics outhere?

Just wondering how many people on these boards are A&P techs.
I have been one since January '04.
Graduated from East Coast Aerotech, award for high honors.

Anyone else?

ECAT class of 3-83 Retired the tool box in '98 and got into computer programming. I miss A&P'ing on those warm summer days...but not this time of year!

Got my A&P in January of 1981. Worked at the Cessna Factory Delivery center for 6 years, on Propjets and Citations. Joined the military in 86, have been a Jet Mech ever since. I've worked on J-79's (F-4 Phantom) F-100's (F-16) and F-101's (B-1b bombers). My job is better than a hobby...I get paid to do what I love!

A&P for 24 years. Started out fueling aircraft when I was 16. Colorado Aero Tech graduate. Inspector from 1992 to 2000, but went back to the toolbox. I honestly can’t imagine doing anything else, at least not right now!

I graduated from Riverside School of Aeronautics in '80, then worked in a Lincoln-Mercury body shop for awhile. I then worked at a machine shop, and learned a little about running CNC lathes and mills, and did most of the work restoring a full scale Piper PA -18-150 (150 H.P. Super Cub)...

After being a crew chief in the Army, got my Bachelors Degree in Aeronautical Maintenance from San Jose State, along with the A&P certificate, then traded wrenching time for flying time and instruction up through CFI in 1977... Haven't worked on an airplane since

Cheers!

Go for it. Avionic's engineers are becoming more and more rare. Pay and conditions are good and we dont get very dirty

After 20 years enlisted time, got commisioned as a Maintenance Officer. Unit transitioned to KC-135 in 1975.

A&P Sacramento city c. 1974, IA 1981, ATP, type ratings and all the other letters and stuff. I always considered flying the no-brainer aspect of aviation.

Glendale College, A&P Program, '78-'80. Worked in aviation for only two years. Economy was rough; airlines were laying off, general aviation paid really low wages everywhere and I couldn't make ends meet so I got out of aviation wrenching and into city bus wrenching. Been an inspector for a few years. Been in it for 22 years now.

Mike, my first mishap investigation was with the NJANG just after the -135 transition. Sometime in the bitterly cold winter of 1977-78.

I got my A&P in 1990 and my IA last year. All I work on now is turbine helicopters, I haven't touched a fixed wing in years (if you don't count my R/C fixed wing)
