PW600 engine question
Does the compressor part on the PW600 have an axial 1st stage and a centrifugal last stage. Looking at an exploded view of this engine, it looks like it's got a fairly "weak" three fan axial compressor before a final centrifugal compressor.
Also, is the "reverse flow combustion chamber" simply a way of making the engine more compact (length wise) or does it have other benefits to it? This little engine looks great, and it's funny how they need to use a centrifugal compressor to get high enough compression in this little engine. Does anybody know what kind of compression can be achieved in this engine? I seem to remember that a larger commercial turbine engine runs about a 20 or 30 to 1 compression, but I could be wrong, could be in the 100-200 to one, whereas I think our small model turbines are lucky if they achiev 5-8 to 1 with their single stage centrifugal compressor.
