Default House bill HR658

Below is a response I just recieved from my congressman. Has anyone else got more recent news, or similar response from their congressman?

July 22, 2011

Dear Mr. Hughes,

Thank you again for contacting me regarding your support for an amendment to theFederal Aviation Administration (FAA)Reauthorization Bill,H.R. 658,regarding the operation of model airplanes. Your thoughts and comments are always appreciated.

On February 11, 2011 the House Committee of Transportation and Infrastructure Committee voted in favor of H.R. 658, with my strong support. The FAA has been relying on short-term extensions for too long and H.R. 658 provides important modernizations to our nation's air infrastructure.

While the Senate version of Federal Aviation Administration Reauthorization Bill included an amendment addressing your concerns, there was not a similar amendment offered to the House version during the markup of the bill in March. With both bills having been considered by their respective chambers, the differences between the bills must now be resolved in a conference committee. The conference committee is meeting now and working on compromise legislation. Please know as the legislative process continues, I will keep your support for exempting model airplanes from FAA regulations setting specific heights, speed, and weight limits in mind.

Thank you again for contacting me regarding your support for an amendment to the FAA Reauthorization Bill regarding the operation of model airplanes. If you have any other questions or concerns feel free to contact me at anytime.

Sincerely,

Stephen L. Fincher
Member of Congress

No replies so far? The silence is disturbing!

Please tell me there are others here who contacted their congressman and senators and have recieved someresponse from one of their their legislators regarding this issue!!

To be fair, I have also recieved responses from Senator Alexander and Senator Corker, but so far, Mr. Fincher's communication has been more personal and detailed.

It may be old news by the time I get it, but I'll keep posting any new responses I get in this thread.

You want a reply, I'll give you a reply.

You should keep Model Aviation as far away from Congress as possible.

The FAA Reauthorization Act, which the model airplane section is a part of, is currently stalled in Congress. The FAA has closed down a fair number of non-essential services (~4,000 people) waiting on Congress to get its act together.

Fortunately, if you forget to bring a book to read while you wait for that
you will have plenty of time to write a book of your own

I agree 100%, unfortunately we are beyond any choice in that matter.

My curiousity is more to the question of how many other legislators have taken the time to respond to individual constituent's concerns about this issue. I realize they are busy people who can not personally respond to every message they get. I'm also sure that the responses I recieved were probably prepared by a staff member or aid. But I think it is interesting thatall three of my legislators did make sure I got a response. I'm interested to know which ones in other states are too arrogant to think they should do likewise.

I have written legislators on several other occasions, and all but one replied. The non replier was not re elected.
