mongo's foci loggi on RCG while init4fun was flying his foamy:
"coupez,
what you wrote in that diatribe above, is just what would need to be in a first edition logbook.
from that kind of information from all of us, the powers that be(AMA or FAA) can start to build enough information about R/C problems to have an IDEA of what they need to see.
then they can start making requirements for entries above and beyond what you have already been "logging" so far, or not.
right now, they have a 0 information database to work with.
and the same goes for the info F3B posted"

"Some people - notably our "best friend" f_m - are trying to twist the FAA's regulatory language to imply an intention to require recordkeeping for recreational operators..."
Then out of thin air,
"They are trying to persuade the AMA to make this mandatory before the FAA does."
This is after his laboriously long post listing all the models he flew this year, with photos naturally, wading through the builds, breakdowns and other minutia, to make the case maintenance logs would NOT add to safety.
Mandatory recording of parts that might last 10 flights or 200 (or zero) is unenforceable. AMA likes wasting money, they can try to collect a voluntarily database of the useless information. Commercial users may reach a point in 5 to 10 years where they have enough data for some scheme of preferred parts and rule-of-thumb service life (certi-lite) for small operations. It will take real data before the FAA is involved. That means never for hobby crap.
Log this. (Flight Test)
Amazon's 1st Gen delivery drone cost $150,000 per unit. Their 2nd Gen is predicted to be a bargain at $60,000. One thing it doesn't have are $5.99 servos - Wonder how much the winch servo costs? Or the one that opens the cargo door?

the FAA, and even the AMA are not inclined to believe that there is no information we could log and give them the ability to set maintenance standards on your word, or my word, or everybodys word. they will have to see it for themselves with a major ton of really boring nothing to see here logs first. we can supply them with just that, if we will just put forth the effort to write down the everyday minutia that is a trip to the flying field and what happens there.
and for the record, while init was flying his foamy, i was finishing texturing and preping a remodeled sunroom for paint. that post ya quoted was a day before init went flying.

What I find interesting is how beer is blamed for almost everything that isn't perfect these days. When I think back to when I had my last beer, it's been almost 30 years. I wonder how that would fly over at RCG, me not being a beer drinker. I'm sure Speed and Coupez will find some way to twist that one into something that isn't flattering to anyone but them

Geez ... take a couple days away from this to attend the Steelers game and do some tailgating .. and the discussion has devolved to beer? What did I miss?

Not a heck of a lot. Seems to have gone from "attack everyone possible that's aligned with Franklin" at RCG to what you see. Then again, RCG doesn't have anything new in their thread either

Yeah, RCG is nothing more than an echo chamber for like minded AMA acolytes. Dare to say anything different, and they manufacture reasons to ban you.

Maybe like Franklin you mean logging something else. When Franklin backtracked and said he didn't mean recording parts, I asked him, What else would you put in there? He never said.

I love the cross-posting feature with RCG but it's getting harder to keep up. "Astro 1" just posted on RCG:
" Sorry Echo, all three of Mongo's posts align to me, not sure what you're getting at."
This is after coupez rattles the chains about mongo. Is #2 from RCU?

Would the REAL "mongo" please stand up?"
We may need a crossing guard.

Hey, guy who waives and honks his bike horn to get attention, are you also astrohog 1 on RCGroups?
Hey suspect #2. What three posts by mongo, the ones cited by coupez? Come out come out wherever you are. Explain yourself.

because so much is being cross posted, this is my latest attempt at injecting a little realism into things over there.
"well, the point i take is:
since they(FAA) have not done anything but suggest that records and such be kept and collated or whatever, all we need to do is to start recording whatever each of us feels is what they might need to see.
no 2 of us will come up with the exact same things to record, and that is ok.
i mean, does any body really believe that the full scale guys started out with detailed logbooks like some are discussing here, at Kitty Hawk?
effectively, that is where we are in all this regulatory oversight carp.
the beginning, not a final rule: end all, be all regulation."

Cable box on our downstairs TV had been "acting up" for months. We rarely use that TV. With Thanksgiving coming up, Mrs. Astro reminded me that her Mother would be coming for dinner and probably would not be able to navigate the stairs to our main floor. After 30 years of marriage, my ears have been trained to hear, "Mom's coming, you better get the cable box figured out". Long story short, realized I still had an actual VCR (albeit a VCR/DVD combo!) hooked up to the home theater system down there!

Wow! I have a pile of VHS tapes I keep meaning to get digitized.
Interesting despite how much bickering we do how much we have in common. I"m a cat person and I don't drink and have seen the Monkees in person, in fact I met them all after a concert in Philly years and years ago. I expected Jones to be a bit of a diva but he's one of the nicest celeb's I ever met.

I’m glad you chimed in here, Andy. You have an opportunity to clear up a recurring issue that has/is muddying up these threads.
You’ve come to speedy’s defense a few times by stating, “speed is NOT Mach5 “.
I’ve challenged that statement because I don’t believe you possess the data necessary to say that with 100% certainty.
Is it possible/plausible that speed could have simply used a different computer and/or one of the many VPN services to create the Mach5 persona, and RCU wouldn’t be able to detect it was him?

The geographic area is different, the carrier is different, and I have a list of IP's of relay/vpn sites our scammers use to disguise their identity. Besides the IP's matched exactly another account. I put them both in for a ban but it's above my paygrade that they are still around.
Could I do it and get away with it? Probably because of my IT background but Ken and the crew are pretty good at sniffing out fake accounts.
There's other stuff we look at as well which I'd prefer not to discuss in an open forum. I'll say this, shill accounts almost always give themselves away, they just can't help it.
