Personally, I'm not going too get worried until I see mirrors and straws openly displayed on the judges tables at an IMAC event. Until then I figure we're still good to go....

Not that I want to ever be lumped into agreeing with Hoss.
Free flight is frankly amazing to me. Being able to build to that level and recover something you have tossed to the four winds is an amazing feat. Hats off to anyone that has ever been good at it.
I frankly would have no problem with anyone drinking at a free flight rubber fun fly or contest. I think the chance of getting hurt is pretty small. When you start to introduce the next level however, your just asking for trouble. (meaning any powerplant other than rubber.) But then I have not seen any high end rubber motor free flight stuff, perhaps its dangerous as well.

"Back in the day" (whenever that was) it was common to fly all afternoon and late into the evening....and after YOUR last flight, open a bottle or two to finish off a great day with the guys.
Of course some would pitch a fit today if they saw that...but I thought it was interesting that some wouldn't drink until AFTER their pride and joy was safely on the ground....sure beats what USED to be accepted at many of the Mid-West pattern contests were some pilots got to the point of putting down a 6 pack between rounds....and finished near the top/or WON the event! Now one of those is making rules for us!

On a nice day at our hay field, grab a lawn chair, pop open a beer and fly combat with 12 oz planes towing 20 foot streamers. If anyone can find fault with that, then don't come trampin' through our 16 acre field while we're having fun.
