Not for nothing Ken, but why does RCU put polls in forum discussions and not standalones for users? I'm not for derailing the subject of the thread, but we should forget that the functionality is not limited to only pollings ... otherwise Mike and Marc would have been smart enough to render the discussion application useless in polling threads. Regardless of whether they are polls, you should still be allowed to discuss the subject, otherwise those crazy guys at RCU could just use survey monkey like the AMA uses for it's membership base.
Initially I wasn't going to answer this question Dion, but I've changed my mind and I will provide you with an answer. The reason I said what I did earlier is because IT IS THE RULES OF RCU. Nothing more, nothing less. The RCU Community Rules are very clear in this matter:

TOPICS OF DISCUSSION:
Although discussion forums encourage a wide range of opinions, please keep your posts focused on the topic of the thread and related to the forum you are submitting your message.
So, with this in mind let's look at what you ask. In some polls that are posted here on RCU discussion of the subject of the poll is perfectly acceptable. But the thread title here is perfectly clear, "Yes or No. I am an AMA Member". There is nothing to discuss in this issue. You either for "Yes" or you vote "No". Simple, end of discussion.

I will not mention any names here, but those that do this know exactly who they are. There are members here that will try to derail any discussion and turn it into their own pet topic, whatever that may be. And that is where I saw this thread going when I put the brakes on. For those members that regularly do this practice, be prepared for some seriously frustrating times coming up as I'm getting ready to crack down on this practice.

So Dion, there is your answer. While some polls are fitting for discussion, this one is not.

Ken

Nothing like trying to limit freedom of speech. One of the great things about RC Universe is the free flowing of ideas.[8D]

This is how we learn and grow. If some just want to argue, that’s to bad. I will pick them out just skip over there posts.

I’m still YES

Yup! And, of course, I did the poll too - "Yes" there too.

Another yes (853099), I feel it's a worthy cause and concider it a donation to the furure of my hobby. My only regret is that I did not get started sooner.

My thought exactly!

Of course time and money played a big role in that.

Well I hope all the effort Hoss, Mark, and RCU has put into this campaign program here reaches more than the 79 AMA members shown in the poll.

I've been flying for 15 years. Been an AMA member for one. Had to join AMA to join a club that is about 3 miles from the house

Thanks to all that have voted. Looks like we "may' max out at about 125. Certainly not a large group of folks in such a popular RC forum. [sm=confused.gif]

This is another poll where not everyone clicks on 1 of the above, including me. My # is below here, so why should I bother? I bet there's alot more than you might think here that just doesn't care about polls

Ronnie,

You could be correct. But it's interesting to note how little traffic comes to this forum compared to RCU as a whole.

This must be some kind of a poll for your RCG buddie's, huh? I have an ama #, so whats the point of clicking on the poll? I know I have one an don't really care if anybody else knows except the people at the clubs where I go to fly.
Really though, who would give a flying rats nest other than you or the RCG people?

I see just about the same numbers on RCG also. RCG has tens of thousands of members, and I'm sure RCU has even more since it has been around even longer. Neither AMA forums have much traffic at all even if one or two do not click an option on the poll. I'm not sure why. There must be many more AMA members here on RCU and I know that there are over 1100 on RCG.

Definitely interesting results.

What this does tell me is that these online forums are probably not the best way to provide info to AMA members since so few will see it. Which makes me glad that Hoss and Mark would bother to go through so much trouble for so few.

You might want to add one more name to that list, Hoss.

134. I guess that's not that bad. And we even had 14 non members visit. How about that? I hope after reading all the great info here there will be 14 new AMA members.

Been flying for over 25 yrs and have never been a member, Mostly because I have always lived in the country, near small towns and far away from bigger city's, the local clubs have always been over 45 min. drive. why go when I have always had a landing strip and a wide open space to fly.

I dunno. Comraderie? Hanging with the boys? Learning new techniques? Seeing new models? Meeting new folks with similar interests? Fun? Other than that not much benefit to clubs.

wow,
its like you listed off why I was StreetFlying with a bunch of guys in Freemont/SJ rather than street flying alone. You could even say improved safety (more eyes to spot danger). We even had some AMA & Club guys streetflying with us, cause... you know... AMA'ers are welcome to fly with us on the street (even though it is less than reciprical).
All of that is availible to non members.
