Where do you get that AMA does not want youth members?
I said "Many AMA members don't want them in the AMA either."
The AMA will accept anyone as a member.
Many AMA members do not want "parkflyers" of any age in the AMA.
Two different things.

Sorry, but you are the only one that has said this. PPP and youth are two differant memberships.

Most young people I know are park flyers and don't need the AMA at all; PPP, Youth Membership or anything that gets dreamed up.
And yes, many AMA members don't want kids (or anyone) with park flyers in the AMA.

Those are not all true statements. It is not that we did not want the parkfliers in the AMA. We did not want a different tier of membership. What you got, and what we did not want was a lower level of insurance, and the inability to nominate and vote. The least you could do is to do your research and post true statements.

I am refering to Mr. Huber (and his infamous comment) and others of like mind.
And KE's post:
"I can think of 2 clubs I've been to
that would sit back and Oooo & Ahhh
at a kid with a bamboo pole & line 'flying' a guillows stick and tissue around (or even a FFFoamy plane).
Of course, I can think of 2 clubs I've seen where the members would DETEST that waste of runway time."

Don't even mention if a kid show up and wants to do 3D.

But, I am a liar. The AMA is all love. Everything and everyone is welcome at every club.

Stick is right,
check the late 07 threads and you will see
we were/are not against having something to bring in the small electrics,
but we were/are againt the way PPP creates the NormalMember vs AbnormalMember tiers.

We want those guys to join us as peers, not serfs.

1. Many members disagree with us as to kids and/or PPP.
2. The PPP was a failure before it started.
3. Most kids I know fly at parks.
4. Most parkflyers I know don't need the AMA or a club.
5. The AMA will take anyones dues.
6. Many clubs only allow certain kinds of aircraft and types of flying.

And your point is?
The AMA is going to keep losing members. There is little that the AMA has to offer most young and/or park flyers.
The hobby is changing and the AMA isn't.

As said, "little that the AMA has to offer most young and/or park flyers." I suspect that is true; however, the AMA needs to determine what the AMA does have to offer that is of interest to young people and/or park fliers. Clearly a magazine and a second class membership is not the answer. Because I fly competitively, I think the AMA should offer young people (which it already does), and park fliers, organized competition. This is a unique thing the AMA has to offer. This should be of interest to some, but probably not to a large majority.

The Jumprope Nationals were on Fox Sports Southwest again today.

Facts.
So post some facts of your own.

You can start with examining the decling membership numbers for the past years.
Then you can check the PPP participation.
Then you can check the youth membership perticipation.
Then you can talk to kids at the LHS and parks
Then you can talk to a few hundred HS students every year about model aircraft.
Then you can get away with arguing with me.

Once again, instead of focusing on the original question the same BOZOS have turned this thread into a PISSING match.

I'm signing off for now![:@]

Not trying to argue with you. You asked a question, I answered it. If you do not like the answer then don't ask the question.

Alrighty....is this how you do it?

Done. Been monitoring that for 11 years. So?

Ok Again. So what? The AMAoffers a second, less expensive tier. You can argue all day whether tiered membership is good or not, but it seems that short of offering a full open membership with all the appurtances, nothing else is good enough. You, and many others go on, and on,. and on, and on, about how the parkies don't need ama and never will. You almost seem boastful about it. Well, not almost. You wear it as a badge.

ORIGINAL: dbcisco
Then you can check the youth membership perticipation.
You're getting repetitive. Youth membership perticipation (sic) is influenced more by current culture and (non)parenting than by anything the AMA can do or does.
ORIGINAL: dbcisco
Then you can talk to kids at the LHS and parks
I have found very few in the hobby in general, much less in the AMA, that don't take every opportunity they can to spread the joy of aeromodeling to the great unwashed. Young and old alike. What make you special?
ORIGINAL: dbcisco
Then you can talk to a few hundred HS students every year about model aircraft.
Because your job gives you access to a large number of youth makes it your responsibility to give them facts and insight into the hobby as a whole. Not just chunking a foamy in the park. (Not that there's anything wrong with that.) How many of your students are aware of the benefits and youth related programs the AMA offers. Ever take a class to the local club field where they might experience giant scale, turbine or racing/combat models?Or is that you prefer to expose them to your vitrolic and obsessive hate and distrustof the AMA?If anythingyou are not ona mission to make the AMAbetter, but rather, youhave made it clear that you try to stearyourstudents away from clubs and the AMA. Nice job.

Ihaven't seen a single "factoid"you have put forth that makes you any more or less qualified to give your opinion. Unless, of course, you recognize an inflated ego and inflated sense of importance.

Nice attack K-bob, I do not even mention the AMA to my students unless they bring it up and then I tell them I have no opinion (that is the law). The AMA is not a mandatory part of the hobby. I certainly do not tell any of them the AMA is bad or not to join (or the opposite). Quit making that idiotic stuff up! You haven't been in my classroom.

I teach within the scope of my subjects, my students create 3D models of aircraft from 3views, create a webpage of which one set of materials is an RCU review, I help the drafting instructor and students make aircraft plans and blueprints. I also get the machine trades involved with CNC projects related to aircraft design.
Now, what is it you do? Take them to watch people fly and talk them into joining the AMA.
I am a teacher not a salesman.

I belong to two clubs which are strictly control line, and fly from time to time on two other fields which are strictly control line. In the past I have belonged to a couple of general clubs (back in the '50's, before there was much RC), and one strictly free flight club. I understand there are RC helicopter clubs, 3-D clubs, soaring clubs, float flying clubs, etc. Are we saying specialty clubs are causing the AMA to decline in membership? If that is the case, so be it. I might mention that two of the control line sites mentioned above have adjacent general RC fields. Of the other two, one has adjacent active soccer fields, the other a boat pond.
