Will this require a special waiver?

Why would an "AMA guy" not be able to participate?I'll answer for you. There is no reason. You just had to get a jab in against an organization you don't belong to in a forum about an organization you don't belong to. Better get back to the tractor forums.

What he meant was that "non-AMA members won't need a waiver". Quite a good joke, not a jab.
This is currently forbidden on AMA club fields but of course even AMA members can do it where ever it is legal, don't think the insurance will cover you though.

Think you misunderstood his intentions. Now you can both shake hands and forget about it.

This event reminds me of how my brother and I would float model ships out on the pond and shoot at them with our BB-guns.

It is?

Got a link to that rule?
I spent a good amount of energy a few years back trying to educate folks that were demanding we accept their declaration that Paintball was forbidden by AMA... they were just as direct in their declaration as you are with yours.
... well, at least you are not saying anyone that believes this is allowed is stupid

so, for the folks playing along at home,
just what AMA rule prohibits this?

Wow. We agree again.

I'll point out what should be obvious. The AMA makes rules, it does not and cannot cannot make law.

If I, as an AMAmember, choose to drop 2.2Lb. magnesium inciderary bomblets from my giant scale plane, the AMA could do nothing about it. Others in law enforcement could try, and I certainly would not expect the AMA insurance to cover the damage to my home and car when it all goes awry.

Sorry, dbcisco, but there is no written prohibition against such. There are several rules in the General Section of the Safety Code that some here will try to twist around to suit their arguments, however in reality they do not apply.

Now if local club/flying facility established rules do prohibit such, then AMA Safety Code general Rule #1 would apply.
"1. I will not willfully fly my model aircraft in a careless or reckless manner, and will abide by this Safety Code and any additional rules specific to flying sites."

Local rules apply and become part of the S.C. However if such rule is not established, then AMA has no rule against "shootin' them thar boogers."

You are incorrect.
There is much the AMA can do about it:
the Membership Manual clearly delineates just what the AMA can indeed do to/with members.

AMA is an organization of Rules,
I dont understand how sooooo many of our folks are so under-informed on our rules.

note:
while I could have correctly use 'ignorant', I chose to say 'under-informed' to keep the chit chat friendly.

Well, now, strictly speaking, cisco is correct.
The plane in that video has pyro-technics on it.
Rule 8 in gen'ral roolze prohibits such.

I will also adhere the spirit of friendly banter. However, I must point out that you chose to ignore the point that the AMAmakes rules , not laws. Huge difference.

I'llacknowledge your point that the AMA could do something about it but I made the same point earlier. They could revoke my membership and/or refuse to cover my arse with their insurance. My point was that they could not stop me from doing it. It not a matter of being uniformed but rather informed of the AMA's policing powers (none).

This specific exchange started with a non-AMA member trying to poke a stick in the eye of AMAmembers for no other reason than to poke a stick in someone's eye. He chided that AMA members could not partake in the activity. I say they can, and have seen no valid rebuttal so far.

Anyhoo, it looked fun. Where do you get the little pyro devices and what are they called? I think a single shot .410 would be more sporting.

The paintballers brought it up with the AMA. Paintball is now allowed but not other firearms. Prior to the paintball thing, there was no explicit decision from Muncie.
It is interesting that the RC tank community is very big on airsoft guns (soft BBs).

Rule 8 in gen'ral roolze prohibits such.

well, have you considered
FHH @ http://www.modelaircraft.org/forums/fb.ashx?m=8725

Under AMA Safety Code Pyro is allowed under certain restrictions...

We can't DROP a firecraker or smoke "bomb"
We can't launch an UNGUIDED model rocket.

We CAN launch an RC rocket powered glider from an RC aircraft.
We can affix smoke cartridges to a plane to give smoke trails to an electric powered model or sailplane.

Since the smoke "charges" on the aircraft in the video are NOT dropped, its likely they wouldn't defy the AMA Safety Code.
cause when I mentioned the pyro on the AMA's board
thats the response I got
so we are golden, right? [sm=thumbup.gif]

Default RE: New AMA Competition EVENT.

I stand corrected.
There is a document on the AMA website that seems to indicate that shooting planes (in a safe and responsible manner) with paintball guns are supported by the AMA.
There is nothing against using firearms in any of the safety codes or other documents there. If it is legal, safe and done responsibly I see no reason why a club that can legally use firearms (ones on game lands for instance) should be able to blast their planes all to heck if they want to.

Default RE: New AMA Competition EVENT.

I would hazard a guess that
this could get a positive response from a Sporting Clays shooting site.
Especially when you play the video of the plane getting blasted,
the Smoke Effects trigger,
and the plane is seen flying safely away.

Even without AMA club Site Insurance,
an AMA/PPP pilot could be covered with the member insurance
for recreational piloting of a model for the sporting clays guys to shoot at
