RE: Important Info regarding FAA regs
What a shame.
Over 2 hours as a post here and with 35 views..... and nobody makes a comment or even a comment to say something like..."Yes, I sent mine in". Take a break from adding to some of the mindless threads of drivel here and and be a voice to help our hobby out. I did my part for this in the Jets Section, it only takes 30 seconds. ;) Thank you in advance for for your help! |
RE: Important Info regarding FAA regs
This same info is in several other threads that started before this one.
I think that is why it is getting few views. |

Do you people know what's in the amendment? It allows the FAA to regulate model aviation. Do we want that?
|
RE: Important Info regarding FAA regs
I would suggest everyone read the bill for themselves and also the form letter provided by the AMA. My interpratation is that it tells the FAA to stop the regulation process.
Why would the AMA want a bill to pass that allows the FAA to regulate us? Infact, the FAA allready has the power to regulate and wouldn't need a bill from Congress. Please read the bill and then send the email to your congressmen. Matt Raymond |

Do you people know what's in the amendment? It allows the FAA to regulate model aviation. hard to have an exemption from FAA model regs without there being model regs to be exempted from you have to read the AMENDMENTS, around a85 is the model one |

RE: Important Info regarding FAA regs
Idid mine, but.....
The sample letters are a little stilted you've got assume these letters are processed by 23 year olds who are more interested in bagging the intern than opening email. I'd add a paragraph at the top that dumbs this way down - "your constituents that fly model airplanes are having our hobby threatened by the federal government regulations - we need your help." Facebook does help, several of my non-flying friends did the form as well.... Make sure all your local clubs (there are 30 within a 60 mile drive for me) have the information. Invite the Congress-critters to your next club event. Put a face to the email. One local club does a Veterans Flyin. Those Congress-critters love that photo op stuff. Get them on a buddy box. Perhaps a slogan:"Urge Congress to keep common sense in the skies" Hey, that'll be my sig:) |

RE: Important Info regarding FAA regs
OKbut it still allows the FAA to regulate models bigger than 55 lbs. Sounds like letting the camels nose under the tent to me.

ORIGINAL: Sport_Pilot OK but it still allows the FAA to regulate models bigger than 55 lbs. Sounds like letting the camels nose under the tent to me. FWIW here's the list of current planes permitted by the AMA 55 pounds or over: http://www.modelaircraft.org/MembersOnly/pdf/520-C.pdf There are right at 100 planes and around 55 individuals on the list. So as it stands now I think it is fair to say that the law, if passes as is, will cover about 99.961% of the AMA members. Probable even a higher percentage of the overall number of modelers in the US. Then, if the AMA accepts the AMA (CBO) standards I am certain those 55 or so fellows will still be able to enjoy their large planes. |
RE: Important Info regarding FAA regs
There is language in the amendment that allows for models over 55 pounds and the AMA has already issued the new standards for such models up to 125 pounds.
