What's unfortunate is that the only reason there wasn't serious damage is luck...
Yes luck. But with the size of most drones the odds are for little to no damage. Also the odds of actually hitting one are so slim that this is likely a bird.

raptureboy 04-18-2016 04:59 AM

And yet another stupid drone pilot and this time it is really serious. How much good will letter writing do now? When the clowns in DC latch onto this there will be no coming back. 180,000 AMA members won't mean Jack *hit compared to losing an airliner full of passengers. They will pass whatever law they deem necessary to keep the skies safe.

Same report not serious and most likely not a drone.

raptureboy 04-18-2016 05:19 AM

Keep telling yourself that. Perception is everything, and Joe public will not take the time to research the facts, stories like this is all it takes to make people start demanding the government do something. You will never hear about it if they discover it was not a drone incident this is all people will remember.

There will have to be a report by the British equivalent of the NTSB. Pretty sure somebody will report. May not make as big a splash though.

BTW what damage was done to the plane?

Who Hit Who? .... No Matter Depending on the laws for British laws The drone Probably should not have been there or was too high if outside the 5 mile radius who knows not enough info and piss poor reporting to boot.

They don't know it was a drone. Far more likely it was a bird. Press and others getting over anxious to report a drone strike.

Just what are U personally doing to change the public's Prescription .... I myself at every opportunity will ask "What do U think of as being a Drone" invariably Women say it one little flying things men use to spy on us in our bedrooms. Other of intelligence mostly say or Mean Quads. The other Night at a fine Stake house in Austin TX. Had a trainee Waiter. Nice Young man Just here from Russia, a small town on the Black Sea. Highly educated and U would not know He was from Russia by his accent. He spoke perfect English and had a sort of Texas Drawl. Well I asked him the same question. His reply any unnamed aircraft. I accused him for working for the FAA part time.

I missed that one sport thanks ... Ya just can't anything Ya read in the press. But if it on the Net it's all true RIGHT? LOL

It seems like once an RC'er attaches a camera to a plane then the beyond line of site shenanigans ensue. I go to the field to watch my planes fly, not to watch the field or myself from the plane.

Total BS. 99% of drone sightings are fiction. The modern version of the UFO phenomenon.

What type of stake did you order? Pine, cedar, or the prime aluminum stake? My favorite is pounded stake. Does the silverware include a hammer?
Sorry, couldn't resist, as I had this vision of a stake house.

Flight Risk 04-18-2016 09:47 AM

Wouldn't you think that on multi-million dollar aircraft they would all have a few dash-cams and wing cams to record any unusual activity?

True. There has been exactly 0 evidence thus far to suggest that it was a sUAV of any type. They can't even tell if the plane was hit by an object in the first place.

No no no flight risk , the stake house is where they send Vampires back to Hell where they belong .... Nasty job , but someone's gotta do it ;)

PS , I LOVE your idea of "wing cams" , just for capturing the terrified looks on the birds faces .002 seconds before impact ...... Ewww ..

Deleted the Nasty stuff sorry But

We should just keep keeping on and stop making judgement and forget it all. U behave your self and nothing will happen. If U must go sit a mile off any runway and catch some one flying a quad there and turn'em in Maybe U will get part of the fine imposed as a reward.

The captain of a British Airways Airbus A320 flying into London's Heathrow Airport on Sunday afternoon told authorities he believed the front of the airplane was hit by a drone on approach. The airplane landed safely and it was examined carefully by engineers. It hasn't been reported what damage they found, if any, but they cleared the aircraft to take off on its next scheduled flight. "It is totally unacceptable to fly drones close to airports and anyone flouting the rules can face severe penalties including imprisonment," Britain's Civil Aviation Authority said in a statement after the incident.
Paul Rigby, a spokesman for the drone industry, said such incidents are preventable. "We should have geofencing for consumers that are embedded into the drones," he told the International Business Times. "The burden is definitely on the manufacturers to take responsibility for the capabilities they're introducing." Such features could be turned off for trained commercial users. A recent analysis by Bard College found 188 "close encounters" reported by pilots to the FAA between August 2015 and January 2016. So far no drone-aircraft collisions have been confirmed.

It was announced today that the aircraft may have hit a plastic bag, not a drone.

I guess they can still use this so-called incident to push their agenda.

Hand it off to environmentalists, plastic bag pollution. They have a similar issue with plastic in oceans. Perhaps they should do the same with plastic in the air. I have seen paper and bags go OOS in a strong thermal.

OK Good. The original report was front and center on all news channels when it first came out. But now nothing about it being a plastic sack.
The news agencies should apologize for overreacting and causing unneeded alarm.

but what will happen when terrorists start flying radio controlled sacks?!
