Section 336 petition
Does anyone know how many sent in the Section 336 petition thus far?
|
I read this on another forum
Only 13,172 signatures which is pretty darn disappointing. We need more signatures. Out of alleged 200,000 members. |
There are currently two paths to fly legally in the U.S. – either under Section 336 or under the FAA's Small UAS Rule (Part 107). If Section 336 is repealed, everyone will have to take an in person test, pay for a remote pilot's certificate, and fly under Part 107 rules. Under Part 107, an individual must be at least 16 years of age to obtain the remote pilot's certificate, so this path leaves AMA's 50,000 youth members unable to fly. We can ill-afford apathy in this case. I signed the petition and also called my Members of Congress offices. |
I suspect that if 336 is repealed, the FAA will write rules for model aircraft (God forbid) for recreational operations. I suspect it'll be what I call a "107 lite" where the person takes an online knowledge test as part of the registration process. The test will be on the "107 lite" recreational operational rules, reading a section so the person understands where they can and cannot fly, how to read a TFR/NOTAM, and where to get info.
I don't think it's going to be awful if it's repealed. |

I don't think it's going to be awful if it's repealed. Anyone see this any differently ? |
Here we are again with the AMA trying to rally the members into another letter writing campaign. That's great but again, what is the AMA doing for us ...the members, in regards to this ordeal?
|
and please remember, only about 130 thousand or so of those 200 thousand members AMA crows about are of legal voting age.
