Another AMA Record Attempt?

1 Attachment(s)
This is the guy selling the FA-18. He is also selling a RC ballon that he will attempt to "...Our goal for this record is to get to 400-ft altitude in less than twenty seconds! The flight will take place at a sanctioned model aircraft field....." and "... The first record attempts fit within the Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA) guidelines and no FAA approval will be necessary...."

only $10,000,000.00 and it can be yours!

LOL... he wants to set a rate of descent record... thats a bit hard to set... gravity plus thrust vectored to push down... you can't go faster than friction allows. (and the sudden stop is gonna be painful...)

I can't see the point in setting some records. There should be a "who cares" category. :)

FH - it's not a record coming down - it's a record going up. I think in this hobby, each of us has set a record for coming down at one point or another. :(

Read it... he said he wants to set a descent rate record.

About the only way he'll do that with a balloon... ignite the envelope so it doesn't exist to creat drag.:D

A lot of attempts at that record were made in WWI... the occupant of the observation blimp would normally attempt to jump clear (first military use of the parachute)

It'll be hard for him to beat the WWI blimp record for descent rate... He's usng helium. The WWI blimps burned really quick... Hydrogen filled.

My instructor was thinking of setting a new AMA record. He is going to train at least 10 beginners to solo within a week. If possible, none will have any previous RC experience.

The hardest part of training 10 within one week... getting the 10 beginners, and secid part would be getting them all to show up at the field for the lessons.

If the beginners pay attention... it should be easy to train them. 4 flights per student per day for a week... solo is easilly possible. (some may solo in 5 or less flights... depends n student and the airplane used)

I can get almost any student to solo with a 2 meter glider in one day.

Believe it or not, finding 10 beginners and getting them to show up will not be difficult. When I say solo, I mean they will be able to takeoff, fly very smoothly and land completely on their own and with a 40 size trainer and not a glider. Keep in mind all of this will be done without the use of a buddy-box.

Am I missing something? This sounds like going up to me. I didn't go to ebay though.

His first goal is an ascent record but he also states on ebay that he is looking for a decent (sic) record and one other. Sounds like something other than helium might get that act high.;)

I used to have some decent records but then CDs came along...

Going to outfit a bunch of "Charlie" boxes? (gutted TX with RX inside and servos move the sticks...)
Its a great group training aid... Would speed things up like crazy. :D

10 guys lined up watching a model with Charile boxes... all gaining some "stick movement feel" experience while the instructor is actually getting to control the airplane. Great use for RX's and servos you don't quite trust in an airplane. ;)

I have my buddy cord... and I'm making my Charlie box from a TX I picked up at a garage sale.:D
