The ballots are in the mail

Just got a note from Colleen Pierce at HQ. Some ballots have already been mailed and on the way. The last batch should go by Monday 9/27.

Regardless of your candidate of choice, this is your last opportunity to talk or write to your friends, club members and flying associates in an attempt to influence their vote.

Support the candidate(s) of your choice. The time is NOW!

Great reminders, and I hope my fellow District V members remember that the incumbent has the advantage if we divide up our votes... [:o]

Balderdash JR! :D:D Either vote to replace the incumbents or don't waste the time. You simply waste the AMA's monies (allocated by AMA from YOUR dues to the vote counter[auditor] and the ballot postage) and the vote can only help cause more serious harm to AMA by not changing anything.
:):)[sm=spinnyeyes.gif]

Now the above is really only a tongue-in-cheek thing, however remember that in any jest there is also a touch of truth.

RE: The ballots are in the mail

Just seen banners in every forum that there are AMA Ballots in the mail.... What is the AMA, and what will the ballot help me do? How did this AMA thing get my address?

Just kidding, sort of. Why is AMA voting soooo important that it should be broadcast all over the world? Is this RCUniverse, or RCUSA?

I guess there will also be a banner in every forum when it comes time for the US to vote....

gus

P.S. Why do I keep getting errors posting messages?

Hi Gus

A very large percentage of the AMA membership are on RCU. An AMA presidential candidate has stepped up into an open forum to take questions and give his views on AMA issues. http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/Ask_...mid_320/tt.htm The other challenger did not accept the invitation to participate, although this forum contains some information posted by others about him. The current president has his Model Aviation Magazine column to make his views known. Not sure if he was invited to join.

This is the first time a large percentage of the membership will be able to know more than what is contained in a very short campaign statement included with the ballots. In other words, the first time an election may be decided by informed votes.

I sincerely hope it is not too big an inconvienence to those who are not AMA members. Oh... and I have no idea about your posting problems

The post obviously only applies to AMA members. And we won't be announcing the US presidential election here or any other election unless it is RC related. If there are major elections in other countries in RC related organizations we will announce them as well of course. The post only appears in the airplane related forums btw.

Because the AMA used to be an association for the advancement of aeromodeling and contests. It is now becoming a large insurance company. If you vote for the incumbants then we might as well call it Mutual of Muncie Insurance Company.

Just curious, where did you get this statistic, and how do you define "large percentage"? Anecdotally, in my experience, very few AMA members are active participants on RCU. And, as I've noticed before, the profile of a typical AMA member portrayed in the recent AMA member survey is totally at odds with what passes for conventional wisdom on RCU. That makes me think if you are correct about the "very large percentage", then they sure don't post very often.

You don't have a very high opinion of your fellow AMA members do you? You seem to assume since past elections have not gone your way, then the members must not be "informed". If incumbents win, you think it's because the deck is stacked. Did it ever occur to you that a lot of people vote for the incumbent as a way of saying, "I think the AMA is doing a good job."??? That's not uninformed. That's simply taking the experience you have and voting your opinion.

Based on RCU's monthly unique visitor count, guest counts and logged in numbers I'd say it is safe to say that a very large % of AMA members visit and read RCU each month. I would say well over half with possibly as much as 2/3.

Tout Au Contraire. my good Mr. DC person. Methinks It's You that doesn't have a good opinion of your fellow AMA members. NO ONE could be so UNINFORMED as to think AMA is doing a good job. :D;)[:@] Hey, Man, give 'em some credit!![>:]

You may draw your own conclusions, and I am sure you will. I don't think that 12-15% of the total AMA membership, voting... never mind how they voted... could be described as a "lot of people". When 10,000 ballots were thrown away in the 2001 presidential election, because they were sent to the wrong address, something is not right. More ballots were discarded than the difference between the winner and the second place candidate. To me, that shows something less than an informed electorate.

Highly doubt it. Has been documented from election studies that people (when not familiar with the issues) will simply vote for a recognizable name. A very high number of AMA members will look at this years ballot and only recognize Dave Brown's name. I did that in past AMA elections. I never heard of the other people, so I voted for Mr. Brown or didn't even send the ballot in. Did I think the AMA was doing a bang up job and I was getting my moneys worth for the dues I spent every year? HELL NO! The known evil is better the unknown evil.

It may not be true that a large number of AMA members visit RCU, but a certainly a large number of RCU members are also AMA members. I agree with JR... So many members now have access to information sources other than the, Everything-is-rosy-in-Muncie Model Aviation, a LOT of people will be making decisions this election based on issues, not just names they recognize.

You can add one member name to the list where this applies… MINE!
I truly believe this matter is like an iceberg, I take it you know the iceberg philosophy?
